I wonder if there is anything else that has changed for you over the past few months or years or since the noise has started bothering you. Anything else bothering you that might compound the noise? I have the same problem with people who get too close to me in public, at the grocery store, on the s...

I'm hearing from the OP that she feels like she doesn't fit in with either group, autistic or not autistic. I'm hearing that in general she feels isolated. I found help in an eating disorder support group at school where we spent most of our time talking about relationships, not food. It was really ...
I feel that parents definitely need to make an effort to make their children aware of their AS and the symptoms that come with it, as well as connecting the child with others like them. .
Whether on the AS or NT, I think it's important that parents teach their child that he or she i...

Yes. I think it would help me feel like it's possible to be accepted for who I am.

You sound like you'd be a great friend. I would choose to tell the person you were excited to find them on facebook and revived memories of good times from your past. Letting them know you've missed them is important. I wouldn't suggest getting together until you can gauge their interest in reconnec...

I believe both women and men are conditioned to suppress their feelings because they are not taken seriously, derided, or misunderstood. I think it's a symptom of an overall lack of emotional intelligence. Masking seems like a way of coping with the overall devaluation of feelings. It doesn't seem l...

I try to avoid touching people. I think it's an extension of my general dislike of connection. I find myself emotionally overwhelmed by connection. And, when somebody wants to hug, and I don't want to, I have a hard time declining their advance. I think I reach a point of decision where I'm either f...

OOM, I said I've seen malicious space taking happen; I did not say it's the reason for most people bumping each other in public spaces. And, if you will read the first sentence of my post...I said, "That's the thing - it doesn't matter if they were doing it on purpose or they just didn't see yo...

Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet eating her curds and whey. Along came someone's opinion which threatened MMuffet sense of her own upright citizenship so instead of asking for clarification or showing compassion, she says I must be blind to context.

I give myself little goals like if I'm going to the corner store for half n half , I repeat in my head "half n half and trust, half n half and trust." The trust part has more to do with relaxing my body so that I brace less though I still brace hard. It helps me to have something on my min...
