You can see if the housing authority for your area has any rental listings. Check their website; if you find nothing, call and ask. They may have a paper list. It's best to be on the waiting list for more than one rental complex. Look into mobile home parks. Some have mobile homes available for rent... |

You do not need a diagnosis to work on the tantrums or any other marital issues. Explain to him that he is a grown man and that you expect him to control his anger better. Of course it is ok to let off steam, but tell him he needs to do so appropriately. If he cannot do that by himself, he needs to ... |

I'm not trying to dismiss the medical issues but I don't want to gatekeep the community against people that might need help. It took me forever to figure out how to respond to this comment of yours because the comment doesn't seem on-topic. You do not have the power to gatekeep the entire autism co... |

It seems like they have to be vague because there is a huge variety of different supports a person might need: could be job accommodations, occupational therapy, a letter board, or a stim toy. It's not much different from the previous diagnoses: they didn't specify what kind of support a person need... |

I've been in Facebook groups for a long time, I was only formally diagnosed about two weeks ago. I keep this information to myself in many groups I am in because I suspect I would be attacked by the self-diagnosed. Ah yes, I forgot to mention: Along with the special snowflake autism-is-my-personali... |

I don't have any experience with the Facebook or Twitter communities. The idea of autism has become way too broad and cool among some groups of people (what they understand about the reality of autism is another matter). By "broad," I mean that people will wonder whether they have autism d... |

When I was younger, I thought charisma was more about the aesthetic: manners, tone of voice, gestures, posture, how you dress. Or maybe about the content: being intelligent, good conversations, humor. Well I think all these things play a larger role in charisma than empathy (if empathy plays a role... |

Non-autistic people tend to be better at calming themselves down; it is a basic thing for them to do so they take it for granted and don't really think about or understand the way stress can affect someone with worse self-soothing capabilities. Also they usually don't have the sensory sensitivities ... |

Tell your parents about specific (autism-related) psychological or neurological issues you are struggling with and maybe that will convince them to send you to some type of mental health professional or doctor. You don't have to mention autism. People will probably take you more seriously if you men... |

I have given up on therapists, and your problem is one of the reasons. People in general simply do not know how to properly interact with someone on the spectrum, I find it enraging and crazy-making, so I'm better off dealing with whatever mental health problems I have on my own. Even if you do shar... |

Why don't you just clip your nails? Why bite them? That is the easy answer and your conclusion is completely correct. However, what do you do in case of having a damaged nail and not having a clipper close :?: Your question made me realize that I never have damaged fingernails. Maybe you have a vit... |

There are a LOT of threads about empathy on this forum, and after reading them for years I've noticed that many people seem either worried that they don't have empathy or eager to state that they do have empathy. But lacking empathy isn't inherently negative. I get the impression that people think l... |
