Well, good luck and best wishes to you :) Given your other threads about being targeted for being a virgin and all that, I think you'll fare much better over here. My take: it would be best for you to go to cities (not small towns) in continental Europe. I'm speaking as someone who knew a couple of...

Are you American? Forgive me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember you were considering moving (back?) to Europe? Yes, I am American. Native San Franciscan. I plan to move to Europe, within the next year or two, yes. Well, good luck and best wishes to you :) Given your other threads about being targe...

Regarding the OP, I'll be blunt: anybody who thinks Stalin was any better than Hitler is either partisan (willfully ignorant) or just plainly ignorant. Edit: I have a very close friend who grew up in the Eastern Block and told me this joke, popular when they were young: A young kid hears the name Hi...

I used to wear aviator glasses---in the 1970s and 1980s. For some reason a lot of people here, especially those in their 20s and 30s, do not like that I wear those types of glasses. I wear long hair and aviator glasses like Ray Manzarek during his time with The Doors. I am not sure if the glasses t...

Nope...never seen it. But I can imagine what it's about LOL There was a TV show, about 10 years ago, with Ted Danson as a doctor which had in it a coffee shop where people used to eat alone without any hassle. Give it a shot if you have the chance, it's a dark comedy, very uncharacteristic in some ...

No, generally speaking not. But I always went out of my way for people who earn my trust or loyalty, so I can still be manipulated, it's harder these days but still possible. It used to be worse.

The only time I ate "free" was when I left without paying the bill by accident. This was in a coffee shop.

I went back in, and told them I forgot to pay my bill. They just "fughettiboutit!"

:lmao:

Have you ever seen Scorsese's movie "After hours"?

Nice list, I hope you enjoyed your time around these parts :) (btw, the staring part in my post was not related to eating by yourself) Yeah, women too and nobody gives them a hard time or tries to pick them up because they're by themselves, nor are the guys perceived of being incapable of having fri...

... I can believe it's considered more embarrassing to eat by yourself than be stood up. ??? It's the same result, only being stood up may inspire pity in the other patrons depending on how you react to it. I had more luck with getting my bill paid when I pretended to be stood up than when I actual...

I have eaten alone many times in Europe, as well as the UK. In both places no one really stared at me. The very rare instances that some have stared at me were usually immigrants, usually Chinese tourists or Chinese students in their 20s. But other than that, I cannot recall being stared at or made...

People who eat alone are usually too wrapped up in their book or paper to really care about other people. Also: don't approach those people. They want to be alone.... Yeah, that's it - hence my "me time" comment! The worst thing I've seen was a pub in England that advertised that "Yo...

In New York City, it's not considered at all unusual for both women and men to eat at a restaurant alone. Many people eat alone, and bring a book or the newspaper to read. This doesn't happen much any more---but cafes used to have a place where they kept newspapers and magazines for customers to re...

^ The OP said he's in San Francisco. I've never had this problem (I'm European) - I travel a lot and have been eating by myself all over Europe at all times of day, fine establishments included. Where I live it's not uncommon to see people eating by themselves in their lunch-break, but also having d...
