That sucks... My dad is a total diet Nazi and won't shut up about his gluten intolerance either.

I've tried going gluten free for several months at a time, and honestly felt no different. (In fact, I actually feel better on days when I eat bread, than when I don't!) Do what works best for you! :)

I like this attitude. I try to accept a lot of things about myself, too. • I have my ups & downs (bipolar), but that's okay • I'm not a genius at social interactions (Asperger's), but that's okay • I'm not suited to be in a relationship (asexual), but that's okay • I have some aches and pains an...

This is exactly how I feel, and it confuses me too! I'm a shy person, but any time I try to come out of my shell and post something that (I think?) is friendly on some kind of forum... Suddenly everyone is disagreeing with me, taking it the wrong way, pointing out factual errors, making sarcastic co...

I'm a jeans and t-shirt person myself. Like you said - no fashion sense whatsoever, but... Who cares, really. I feel comfortable in jeans and t-shirts, and if anyone else decides to judge me for that, they're a moron anyway. Sorry it's a bad day... Now and then I get super discouraged too, but we ju...

I seem to waffle back and forth between different approaches to communication. My nature is to be blatantly honest, and say exactly what I think and feel, and try to state it in a way that hopefully makes sense to other people. But that usually fails pretty badly. So then I go into "shutdown" mode, ...

I can look at people when they're talking to me, but when I'm talking I have to look away from them, because it distracts me to see how they're reacting to me. I misinterpret their expression as confusion, and just give up on what I was trying to say because I figure it didn't make any sense to them...

Welcome! I was diagnosed at 40... I think a lot of folks on here struggled through most of their lives in a world where autism was barely known about, and Asperger's hadn't yet been identified! Sounds like you've managed incredibly well though, despite the lack of understanding or support, so that i...

I hold onto faith that there is more to our soul's journey than just this one, relatively short, often painful and cruel life. There is a reason to face our challenges bravely, to not give up in the face of adversity, and to make it to the finish line, having done our very best, without giving up. I...

All the time. I would gladly trade a few IQ points for better social skills... But the grass is always greener, I suppose!

I hear you... I'm agnostic myself, but go to church with my mom sometimes. And I do believe that Jesus' message was one of love, and kindness, and compassion... It's sad how many of his followers seem to miss that point. :?

They appear so friendly and accepting for that one moment. That's a good way of looking at it. I've tried to tell myself that too in the past... Here's one situation where it's pretty much guaranteed that people will be accepting and friendly to me, regardless of how weird I am - with zero chance o...

Hate: that I'm weird, different, and alone

Love: that at least there's a logical reason for it? :(

Yes I find that church tradition to be terrifying! I enjoy quietly sitting there and listening to the service, and I even love singing the hymns... But having to "greet people warmly" is so uncomfortable! I feel like an idiot with a smile plastered on my face and just keep repeating "the peace of th...

I agree, it seems like common courtesy to reply to messages. (I reply to each and every one, even if only to say I'm not interested - based on specific incompatibilities - and wish them luck!) But this is the internet, and not everyone takes the time to treat random strangers like actual human being...

Welcome! And congrats on finally getting an answer to why you are the way you are :D

I envy you, being able to read so much. I have ADD too, but in my case it makes it so I can't read more than one page without spacing out and losing focus :(

I recently joined, and it's been... interesting. I highly doubt I'd ever actually find anyone who was compatible with me (since I'm asexual, and don't want to be in a sexual relationship). But I've enjoyed getting to know some folks on there, and it's made me feel like I'm not the only person in the...
