Could someone who went to graduate school please answer this question for me: When you go to graduate school, don't they teach you DON'T DO OR SAY THESE THINGS??? The therapists are supposed to be highly educated people, who paid a lot of money for school and are the graduate schools just popping a ...

Has anyone seen the video and preview for a book called "Born Lucky" written by a news anchor who has autism? Just the preview gives me the creeps.

Oh, Oh, I just learned of this book. I have not been on this forum for awhile and just the preview for this book scares me. First thing Leland says is "My dad knew the world would not change for me so he had to change me for the world" I know where this is going. To be truthful I am glad h...

To me, a hospital [or school or camp etc] that is willing to say, "we are not suitable for autistic patients" is preferable to one that claims to be able to treat everyone. I haven't read the article so more than that, I cannot say. You are right, but why doesn't the hospital try to make ...

I think the main gripe with them is AS doesn't seem to do much of anything on a practical level. It's all walks to raise money, celebrities to raise money, but what does the charity actually DO? For example American Cancer Society can help arrange housing and transportation for cancer patients but w...

Is there any way to let people know, to send out a consumer alert. The place I am thinking of is The Pittsburgh ZOO and PPG aquarium. I worked there as a groundskeeper, no longer do for reasons too much to get into here. But there are a lot of things there that a guest on the autism spectrum would h...

Recently, I read an article about it is hard to get treatment for an autistic child in Illinois. The only hospital that can take children for general mental illness, their administrator says that their unit is not right for anyone with autism because it is "noisy and stressful". So why can...

Zach, maybe you aren't crazy for YOU wanting to be a chef, but I have worked in food service and I would say for more than 90% of us with an ASD, it is a world to stay away from. You might be the exception. Here are my reasons: 1. Commercial kitchens are sensory hellholes on Earth. You will be yelle...

I did go to a Penn State branch campus and was in drama, and our advisor did say "Penn State is paranoid about lawsuits" and they needed lawyers so badly that they ended up buying a law school. Yet how can they, PSU, allow a fraternity that kills young men? But then, I'm not NT, so I don't...

That question is why I do not support the Catholic church: What does all this money buy? You do have a choice in the matter, just don't make any donations to them. So far, I have found that the only charities I give to are animal care charities and maybe veterans organizations. Oh, and don't dare as...

And to think a zoo should be a great place for aspies to work since most of us like animals so much. Sounds like the humans who visit act more like they live in a zoo than the animals. Go figure. You are right if you are a zookeeper because they are behind the scenes and near the exhibit bui...

About the kids at the zoo -- would it have been permitted for you to wear ear plugs? Just the small foam ones that fit into the ear canal and are not all that noticeable? I did wear the earplugs at the aquarium and at the children's zoo. The issue is that one would not think a zoo would be an excep...

There are limits to what can be done to help those with disabilities. There is no practical way to keep kids quiet. I have to disagree there. Every kid at that zoo is there because they have parents who brought them there. But I notice most parents are too lazy to tell their kids not to scream. As ...

This past summer I took a groundskeeping job at a zoo in my city. The zoo is NOT autism friendly! All of the buildings have heavy, squealing, banging doors. All need to be replaced, which will never happen. Often I was assigned to work at the children's zoo, I would always have to wear earplugs not ...

I sometimes do not speak well either, especially if I am tired. I guess NT people can just talk on and on. Constantly I get huh/what/what's that/pardon me because many people not only cannot hear well, they don't want to listen.
