Well that makes sense. I remember - in fact I just recalled this the other day - that when I was about 22 I went through a period of really looking at my life and myself and trying to figure out what was going on, why I'd always felt so different. I didn't hear about Aspergers at that time, in fact...

Yeah, I knew I was doing some fronting a lot of the time (like, I tried to really get the idea of "expressions of sympathy and compassion" down for some reason, and those are actually really hard a lot of the time). Anyway, I was talking to an acquaintance I've known online for the past four years,...

I believe I do know what you mean. Lots of people have described similar. I've done similar, although not so much anymore. I am not sure it helped all that much because I wasn't aware of all the possible things I could mask in the first place. Well, I didn't manage to mask things that well anyway s...

It helps to have that confirmation that something is there, and it helps so many things begin to make sense and coalesce into a sensible pattern, though. It's kind of a relief. Exactly. Also, now I don't have to wear my "social masks" when meeting my boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend. Not that...

Maybe you're reading too much about various "conditions" and not doing enough to get in touch with yourself and what you're feeling and experiencing. Has something happened to bring you to question what's going on with you? I felt not-normal all my life. But it was a particular crisis and my reacti...

Just thought I'd tell you I talked to my boyfriend's brother's girlfriend today. She's some sort of psychologist who gets to diagnose children, adolescents and young adults with autism, AS, personality disorders etc. She's one of the first people I've ever told about this whole situation. We talked ...

Well, that depends on how you define "serious problems" I guess. I think my main problems are the fact that I can't really meet new people, my anxiety issues, and my aggression issues. Besides that I think I'd really feel a lot better if I knew what I have. That is, if I have AS or something else. ...

Just so I know (I've been thinking about this since I read it), does "hitting brick walls during studies" mean you go outside and literally hit brick walls or is it a figure of speech? It's a figure of speech. It's when you are working fine, but then suddenly come to a complete stop and can't get g...

Indeed, I also have that feeling of knowing once and forall. My need of knowing stemmed from counceling that picked up autistic traits which regarded a few things such as eye contact difficulity, hitting "brick walls" during studies, inability to emotionally connect with anything, lack of any sence...

I mean things like that - I think those are called perseverations, where you do the same thing over and over again. Eating the same food is a classic . I said earlier I rarely laugh, but there was a scene in the film Adam where the main character (who has AS) opens his freezer, and you see that he ...

I would guess that perhaps hinging the question of having autism on routines alone won't work. You'll need the other stuff too - repetitive behaviors, intense interests, social impairments, communication impairments, etc. Well, have some of that as well. When it comes to intense interests for examp...

I believe the issues with routines are characteristic of autism, but not of introversion. But can't routine and doing things in a certain order all the time have to do with OCPD as well? Or am I wrong? It drives me crazy because things overlap and I don't know how to know what the heck is "wrong" w...

Interesting. I scored higher on interpreting tone of voice than I did on facial expressions, although I couldn't say which is more accurate. I once got into a huge argument with this guy I knew who was doing his thesis on nonverbal communication, and I found it simply impossible to believe that the...

I most often feel "normal" which is to say I feel like myself. I don't know how ostensibly "normal" people feel, so I can't compare how I feel to how they might feel. Maybe they feel like themselves and consider that normal as well? Anyway, I went through a lot of doubt about whether or not I had i...

I sometimes feel this way, that I do not have a condition or conditions. I am only briefly reminded that I do when I venture out into the world on my own and not being accompanied. In fact, at times as vein as it sounds I feel more normal than others with the same condition only to find I'm just as...
