I sometimes can barely speak, and rely on letters I wrote ahead of time. Also, I type and draw with pens instead of actually talking in different games, because I can't really speak then. What is AAC? Please enlighten me. I would like to learn, as I have trouble speaking sometimes and sometimes can...

I can talk most of the time, it’s mostly during meltdowns or after a particularly stressful incident that I lose the ability to speak and have to rely on AAC. I really wish I could use it more often, I find it so much easier than speaking and it reduces a lot of the stress and anxiety associated wit...

I don't know how widely recognised the sunflower lanyard is, I can't imagine most people would understand its significance, rendering it pretty pointless.

I was diagnosed level 2, and I'll admit I can't find many other people like me. I've been fortunate not to have run into ridicule from the autistic community, only from NTs, which I suspect many here experience, regardless of level.

I find writing much easier than speaking too. I have a text to speech app that I use sometimes because when I get super stressed, I lose the ability to talk entirely. I wish I could just use it all the time, but the people around me wouldn't understand if I did that, much to my chagrin.

I’m going to be honest and say that all bras bother me so much that I just don’t wear them. It’s easier for me to get away with because I’m quite flat chested, but in the instances where I had no choice but to wear one, I found a cotton or spandex sports bra to be the most tolerable.

I get this. It has become a real problem since my lecturer seems to think it is ok to make us do class presentations every few weeks and giving us about half an hours notice to start research and prepare for it. I have a bit of social anxiety, so if it is not a situation I am used to having like wi...

I'm a level two, and I have trouble talking sometimes. When I get stressed or angry or upset, I can literally feel my mouth becoming paralyzed and I become unable to produce words, despite having a clear idea of what I want to say in my head. I use a text to speech app on my iPad and phone, as well ...

Dinosaurs are definitely more than just a hobby for me. I feel safe and comfortable when learning and talking about them, they're something I'm confident in that I can fall back on conversationally if I'm struggling. I love learning as many minute details about them as I can and committing them to m...

This may be a little too "new-agey" for some, but I've been taught that we attract what we focus on, whether it's something we want, or something we don't want. If we focus all the time on the things we don't want or are worried about happening, those things tend to happen, but if we pay a...

Exciting news! Hope yesterday went well with meeting Star for the first time :). I too was a little worried about how my 2 cats would get along with my newly adopted dog, and I introduced them gradually ... within a few short days, they were fine together. This is wonderful news for you! It...

Sweet. :D From what I've seen among disabled folks on Tumblr it would be a good idea to start now on coming up with a plan how to deal with people who insist on petting your service dog while she is working, there seem to be a number of the public who can not, or just flat refuse to, process the co...

Don't worry about your cat. It will all work out fine. You know what I am talking about.

Thank you! :D  I’m sure the cat will be fine, it’ll just take some adjusting for her.

I'm very excited, I got a call this morning from the company that I'm on the waiting list for a service dog through, and they said they've matched me with a dog, a black lab named Star. I get to go and meet her on Friday, then in December I'll go down to their facility every day for two weeks for in...

Honestly, your relationship with this boy sounds exactly like my relationship with my high school English teacher when I was in 11th and 12th grade. He started off as my forensics coach, then we started to become friends, until he was my mentor and I went to him for everything. I loved him like a fa...
