Thank to all of you who took time to complete the survey-- I really appreciate your help with this research. Glasstoria-- great! I tried to make the questions pretty straightforward. Thanks for your input! Rob, that's one thing that I hope to understand more from doing this research. It seems to me ... |

From the discussions here, I've read that many of you are applying for jobs, and that certainly involves writing some documents as well. I'm a writi... |

I've struggled with classroom management too, and am NT... it's such a difficult thing regardless I think. For me, I'm a soft-spoken individual and that probably contributed.
Congratulations on your success though-- that is wonderful! |

One thing I notice in common across most of the responses here is that the assumption seems to be that "communication skills" refers to social skills. Since I'm not the most extroverted person around, if I get asked a question about my communication skills, I start talking about my written communica... |

LinkedIn is a good place to start networking. I've used it, and some of my students have used it successfully. It's basically a professional version of Facebook. |

I'm pretty new here, but I'm enjoying reading the conversations. As a fairly new professor, I can definitely relate to those of you who are still in school! I would like to invite you to consider taking a survey that I've written. This survey asks you to provide your thoughts about writing, and the ... |

Rabbitt-- yes, you're on track there... a lot of universities are what's known as publish-or-perish environments. We don't get paid to publish, and we don't pay the journals that publish our writing, but we're expected to do it as part of our jobs. |

Tech writing is an excellent field for finding employment... what you might consider would be pursuing a degree in tech writing and using that field as a day job to support your desire to write in other genres, until you are more established with an agent/publisher down the road. Best of luck to you. |

You might talk to your department chair about the problem and ask if the department/college has considered requiring students to sign an honors code. |
