" I was told by my gynecologist that the hormones shouldn't mess with my emotions, just my uterus" That's the goofiest thing i've heard in a while. Hormones mess up emotions significantly. They also relate to neurotransmitters like estrogen-serotonin progesterone-gaba. What you describe s...

To clarify, I've only had the IUD for a month but emotions have been out of control about a year before then.

Hi all. It's been a while since I've posted here since my AS traits hadn't been giving me as much trouble. But I think it might have flared up again. For almost all of my life, I hardly ever cried. I went through life feeling somewhat numb or disconnected most of the time. I had hardly any friends, ...

Anyone who believes they have an ASD, officially diagnosed or not.

Hi everyone! I'm sure there's a similar thread to this, but it didn't have all the information I was looking for. I'm doing a research project (eventually will be an infographic mini-exhibit) on AS/HFA and wanted to gather information straight from the source. In some ways I find this more authentic...

It seems there are a lot of hurdles to get over first such as... - actually taking mental illness seriously. (stop telling people with depression to just cheer up already, or people with schizophrenia to ignore the voices in their head like it's an easy thing to do) I don't think many people realize...

The statement that people with AS have problems with abstract thinking and generalization is a generalization itself in my opinion. I also engage in a lot of abstract thinking as a graphic designer. The main AS traits that could contribute to that assumption is a tendency toward black and white thin...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: do you fit the stereotype??

I'm differ from the stereotype in that I... - am a girl - changes in routine generally don't upset me - I'm not physically awkward unless you ask me to go to a dance and just move to the music. I don't know what to do. - not much hypersensitivity, or at least it's not handicapping - not particularly...

I've felt different ever since kindergarten. Throughout elementary school, I knew I was different because I was on a different intellectual level. I was the only kid I knew of that was reading since before kindergarten, preferred to read over socializing with classmates, and actually wanted to learn...

121. This makes so much more sense than the DSM. I think it did a good job of taking account for the AS traits that were obvious when I was a kid, but faded away as learned to adapt and act differently as an adult. and the file cabinet question took the words out of my mouth...

I just wondered, if you're in or around this demographic too, what's your life like on the spectrum? What issues do you face? What advantages do you have? What similarities or quirks have you come across in relation to others on the spectrum? I'm female, have mild AS, and I don't know about gifted,...

This is why I think many people refer to Asperger's as a syndrome. A syndrome isn't good or bad, but neutral. It has pros and cons, and is a set of symptoms, a way of being, a condition.

Yep. I love foreign stuff. Some particulars would be anime, all sorts of foreign foods, music, art, and movies. I definitely want to go somewhere more exotic than Canada someday. It also helps that I feel like an alien most of the time so I adjust to travel pretty well. I also don't really have a se...

My research and experience leads me that aspies don't lack a sense of humor. We just have a different sense of humor, often based on wordplay and references. I don't find most people's jokes incredibly funny, but people do occasionally laugh at my jokes, so it works out. Also, it's hard to tell betw...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: How much do you trust online tests for AS?

My main complaint with online AS tests is that subtle wording can really influence how I answer them. It seems there are many tests that are looking for a specific caricature of autism, not people past a certain point on a spectrum. I guess it's also less clear for me in general since I either have ...
