Another situation. I am talking with person A. Person B enters and interrupts immediately. At work, I would only accept that if the interruption is work related and my chat is not. In other cases (both subjects are either both work related or neither of them are) I want the other person to wait. Or...

It gets better! There's a long wooden hallway next to my room, and my parents sound as loud as baby elephants whenever they waddle down it. So I'm constantly tense and vigilant, expecting them to annoy me at any minute. It should be categorized as torture or crimes against humanity. Suddenly the Na...

I hate it as well, my heart jumps when I hear someone knock at my door which is why I instruct them to knock with some "soul" if you know what I mean so I know it's not the cops or my landlord or whoever. I do not like unexpected visitors, I like to prepare myself and am uncomfortable the...

I like the scientific approach.. Reading about group dynamics, conformity and related topics has been extremly helpful. I just wish, that I had done it many years ago. I have used the knowledge to analyze situations from my past, and found surprising answers. Using the knowledge to make predictions ...

spiderpig & unfortunate_aspie_ : Yes! All of it! 'Forcing' someone on the spectrum to do NT behaviors is a form of reparative therapy and like all other forms, it doesn't actually work. Oh, it might be deemed successful b/c the immediate simple goal was reached, but there are always unforeseen ...

Yup, same here. The unexpectedness and interruption just causes me to freeze/panic. Uninvited people in my house make it feel contaminated with their odd scents and social demands. :x What about a sign on your door? "You are now entering social nonsens free area Violation is punished by a slow...

If someone is knocking on my door unannounced, it causes me to freeze, and initiates a mild anxiety attack I'm unable to go the door and even look through the peephole, and do not move until I'm sure they are gone. Same thing with phone calls. I feel a little silly. Especially when I find out that i...

Sounds too familiar .. Usually I'm just too late When I try even harder, I tend to start talking almost exactly at the same time as sombody else. But I'm almost always the first one to detect the collison and stop talking ... Often I just forget what I wanted to say ... I wonder if I'm just to slow,...

Hmm... few days old thread, but I'm gunna jump on the back of this revival because I have something to input. I recently had (failed) CBT for anxiety (honestly, I don't think generalised CBT is very good at taking into account autistic issues and just how in-grained two-decade-matured anxiety respo...

I've been trying on-off ever since i found out that people expect it, and I didn't do it. I'm stil not comfortable doing it. I find it almost impossible to talk and do it at the same time. I usually look somewhere else. it's like my brain is not prosessing the images, when I talk. I only remember wh...
