I can't sleep with anything over my face, but I do need total darkness in order to fall asleep. I have two windows in my room, one facing east and the other south. Any kind of dirt on the bottom of my feet. I wear flip flops or other shoes at all times. Only exception is if I live alone and I can vacuum often enough to make sure the place is clean.
