One question. My wife has often blamed me for not controlling her meltdowns. Of the women who posted who have had similar meltdowns, is there really anything to do but walk away? Dunno. Tantrums are evidence of -something-. I never saw the video (pulled AFAIK). But, personality disorders and autisti...

I think you probably worry too much, but that's normal. We thought our child would never talk. Won't shut up now. Children vary a lot. You might want to check for hearing issues. One of the relatives had a similar problem and lack of response to sound can be associated with not hearing... (Which is ...

@Mind Heh. Probably not. She has a separate account on this site. Helps to know we're not the only ones with this problem. I'm mostly thinking that there's just some stuff that she won't/can't do - so there's not much point in discussing it every day. Why beat a dead horse. Cleaning services help. I...

Y'know, it is mostly the stuff she leaves out while I'm not around. Last night, it was covering the bed in cheerios. And the V8 on the floor. And the noodles on the table (please note...not 'the noodles in a bowl on the table'). And the opened tin cans on the bedroom floor. I shudder to think of whe...

Any advice on the food/clothing issue? As, my wife tends to eat food on the floor and leave it there. Or on couch arms and then leave it on the floor when it spills. The same is true for clothing. I typically clean on the weekends, but it is fairly unsanitary. We have a cleaning service, but they wi...

Study sizes are small, but the studies I've found that separate emotional and cognitive empathy separately indicate that cognitive empathy is typically impaired in Aspergers, but that emotional empathy is similar to that in the normal population. So, I'm going with (b). In my own experience, I'd say...

Qualify: self-diagnosed, on the milder end of the spectrum. Depends. I adore them. And get along well with babies. I've ended up with more childcare responsibilities than my wife while working full-time (albeit she's somewhat more Aspie than I.)... Our friend...much further along the spectrum...is p...

Pluses and minuses. +being with someone similar to you is easier - less need for flexibility. -different aspies are different, and it can be harder to adapt to those differences (Aspie-NT==square+round wheel, Aspie-Aspie==2 square wheels...lots of sparks and fragments everywhere.) -inflexible commun...

I wouldn't bother quitting. Just budgeting time to other fun things. There's nothing horrible about a bit of time spent on games. That said...my other favorite timewasters... (a) children (b) cards (c) board games (d) books (e) programming (f) gym There are also fairly amusing exercise bikes and tre...

Please be a bit careful. I spent about 8 years listening to steadily worsening complaints from an emotionally reactive woman. And listening to billions of suggestions about how I could change my behavior to be a better partner. Meanwhile, the relationship steadily worsened. Following her arrest for ...

...now, it isn't like my probably-Aspie wife and I have a good marriage...but...stuff that has kind of worked... 1. Ask about sensory overload and take steps to reduce it. (It probably took longer than it should have to twig to the fact that she often wrapped an extra jacket around her head when she...

...it depends. I'd take your S/O's concerns seriously. They're probably legitimate. ...for instance, my wife tends towards either shutdown or raging meltdowns when overwhelmed and needs a lot (>4 hours daily) of downtime. As a result, the local preschool and I do the vast majority of childcare. Rush...

One of my friends had a lot of luck with eHarmony because it allows matching very specific interests. He's...significantly odder than anyone in this thread.

AFAIK Aspiedar is more unreliable than gaydar...from an interview...you can never know that much about a person...but you can make some reasonable guesses and bet the odds. You probably couldn't select an Aspie (unless drawing from a large pool) - but you can definitely select for, eg, a quiet detai...

Depends on reality. If you're odd enough to have significant difficulties functioning (unemployable and/or unable to sustain R/S) - then a diagnosis may help. Otherwise, it is probably best to just recognize your issues and work on them - possibly with the help of an appropriately trained therapist....

...some potential motivations... (a) Some people prefer dealing with Aspies. I was always annoyed by a gossipy secretary at my last workplace who took everything personally. (b) Some NT behaviors (eg, social interaction) can be inefficient. I'd rather hire someone who stayed in their office until th...
