I suggest checking your thyroid level too. Low thyroid (hypothyroidism) can cause depression. If you've had sudden weight gain and lack of ability to focus and concentrate at the same time, that's often the sign of a thyroid problem. Just a simple blood test will will give you your TSH and T4 levels...

Thank you all for opinions..looks like the "yes" for Gardisil far out weighs the "no's." My 17 year old daughter has AS. I'm not worried about her "getting austism" from Gardisil-just worried about possible complications in the future. Yet...I've always taken the approach with childhood vacinations,...

This rings so true! My daugher's math teacher (thanks to our school 504 plan) is now giving her his set of notes after every math class. It was just too much for her to listen to him and write her own notes and absorb the information too. She was too stressed trying to write down all the details rat...

I'd love some opinions on this. I know some feel these vaccinations (including all the ones most of us got for our kids when they were babies) could be related to autism. The HPV isn't required in our state as it is in Texas but I need to decide if my daughter should get it.
Thanks!

Hi Java, This sounds very familiar. My daughter wasn't diagnosed until last year at 17. Do you know what your child is talking incessantly about? Maybe that's her special interest and it bores the other kids. Or, maybe as with my child, she wasn't able to read the social cues from others - maybe she...

I agree - trust your instincts. I learned the hard way. Had been taking my daugher to a psychologist for many years (she's a teen now) for social skills issues (not able to make friends) need for routine as well as some speech challenges, fine motor skill issues (got her some OT when she was younger...

I found working with the school psychologist a great help as they have say over the academic counselor. That's the key- to get the psychologist on your side. Did you get a letter from the professional who did the diagnosis? That helped me too in the application process for the SAT accomodations.

My Aspie just likes the mall when she knows what she needs, knows where to go, gets it and that's it. All these years before we knew she had AS, it used to get so stressed for both of us to go shopping, I ended up shopping for clothes for her. It was just too much for her to go through the racks, tr...
