I've always preferred music with no vocals. But I've always had trouble finding it.... Went to a music store once when I was like 10 and tried to ask what albums had no vocals and got laughed at. When I got older and found out I have an auditory processing disorder, my preference for instrumentals b...

Redears - I forgot to ask an important question. Is this a recent phenomenon or has it been like this your whole life? If it is recent, it could indicate something other than CAPD (although late onset CAPD is possible too, though it is usually the result of some sort of damage/accident). I've notic...

I always like hands on classes best too. My senior year of high school I took photography and metal jewelry making at an art school for public school students in my hometown. I liked being able to go in and just focus on what I was doing.

Interesting that some of you have CAPD-like symptoms that are pronounced on one side. I have moderate CAPD, but always assumed it was bilateral. Both of my ears work fine, until anything beyond the faintest background noise starts; then, following a conversation is almost impossible. I also always ...

It looks like I have CAPD also, but it is more of a disconnect or a mediator between my hearing and understanding. It afefcts both ears equally. That doesn't sound like what redears said about apparently having NO way to understand what goes in the left ear. BTW the speach center is USUALLY on the ...

Hi, I am the same way, only opposite ears. I have central auditory processing disorder, which affects how the brain interprets sounds. This has nothing to do with how well you actually hear. For some reason, the pathway from my left ear to the hearing portion of my brain is "worse off" than the path...

People dressed in animal costumes (ex. disney characters, mascots, etc.). When I was a kid I refused to go anywhere near them and did NOT want them touching me. Still don't like them today.

Oh and I have friend who is AS who was terrified of giant fans.

Yep, that's my default behaviour too. I'd rather be considered quiet and boring than a complete idiot/dickhead/worse.

Ya I understand. One thing I have found out though is that my real friends don't require me to stay in touch all the time. I have found that even if weeks go by, sometimes months, and we haven't hung out, the next time I see them they are still my friends . Try not to have the same "standards" for f...

I was punished in kindergarten bc i was terrified of and thus refused to sit on a balloon to pop it. I don't have a general fear of balloons though. I was just afraid that it would hurt to sit on it and pop it and I was also afraid of the loud noise they made.
