Beware of any fad diets. Even though GAPS is meant to be short term until your gut is healed, I don't think they recommend the best foods during or after the "healing." For instance they allow fruits, nuts and "properly prepared" grains. From what I've read fruits and nuts are okay on a very limited...

I have a kindle touch. It's not a backlit one, so the battery life is great. I have a repetitive motion injury in my wrist which makes it hard to hold books so I like reading with the kindle a lot. It's pretty light one handed, and way lighter than any tablet. Sometimes I just set it on a table or p...

I just pissed someone off on another website for saying lying about rape is just as bad as blaming the victim. Really, why are people offended about when they hear about someone lying about rape? Are they denying it doesn't happen? We universally experience a visceral reaction to a woman being rape...

I see huge possibilities for this device. BF and I have been brainstorming ideas to develop. There will always be early adopters and if I have the means I'll be one of them. Then you'll have the people who will wait for a more fashionable iteration. I'd love to be able to replace my cell phone and c...

Howdy from Htown! I think as long as you have a sense of humor about it you could find a girl who likes you just the way you are. My boyfriend is a genius in certain fields but he still calls me for help when he walks a mile in the wrong direction. I have navigation problems too so I can sympathize....

Another neutral response to use in volatile situations is, "I can tell you feel very strongly about that." I could imagine reserving this for the in-laws and co-workers. I've always appreciated logical debate but there was a time when I still clung to societal norms. I remember in college I couldn't...

I get a strong momentary urge to key cars that are double parked and such but have never done it. Sometimes I'll leave a note but not a scathing one. I've had my car towed because I forgot to hang the parking sign and it was over two hundred dollars to get it out. Never did that again. The other day...

Thanks for pointing that out, Fnord. I was just worried women were getting upset because someone was joking about them being in the kitchen or something. That kind of stuff used to bother me enough that I left the Digg community, but I never noticed the pervading problem of misandry until recently.

I'm not a feminist and I don't see how giving up my name would equate to giving up my identity. It's just a word that shows up on my bank statement. It would be kinda fun to take my boyfriend's name because then my name would be Jackie Jack, and no one can pronounce my French surname anyway. I don't...

Is anyone else reminded of the South Park episode "Smug Alert" where Kyle's parents buy a Prius and move to San Francisco? Peter: Oh hello there, you must be the new neighbors. Gerald: Yes, that's right, we're the Broflovskis. Peter: Welcome to San Francisco. I'm Peter Thompson. This is my wife Nanc...

Humans are selfish and the most selfish of us manage to survive and make little copies of ourselves. Even when we're helping out our families, we're still increasing the likelihood of similar genes being passed on. To me one of the few perks of society is getting to pick our own "families" to help o...
