Could the director and the actors have made a mistake with Joon's condition and Sam's I don't know. Could it have been coincidental with Sam? I don't think Benny was abusive, he was just over protective and then he realized. I think the word abuse is tossed around too easily. By that logic I could ...

Now and then I write an autism post, and now and then I also write a movie review/analysis. Today, I've combined these two ideas to do an autism movie analysis. I loved Benny & Joon when I first saw it in 1993. That was long before my Aspergers diagnosis. I went back to rewatch it a few weeks ag...

Hi guys! I've got another post up on my blog. A few weeks ago, I went back and rewatched an old movie, Benny & Joon. This is the first time I've seen it since my Aspergers diagnosis. I was really surprised to find autism represented well, and particularly to find that the theme of the whole movi...

One thing I'm going to point out is this: "For instance, one line of thinking has concluded that there are two classes of empathy, cognitive and emotional empathy. "Normal" people of course have the emotional empathy, and autists have cognitive empathy, which is sort of like a lesser version of emp...

This thread displays in a bizarre manner. Why do all the posts on the first page thread display as one this column? The formatting started messing up after Samian's post where they quoted me. I think there's a broken tag or something in the quote, but since I didn't make that reply, so I can't fix ...

Hey Jamgrrl Can you give an example of what you mean? My position is that people know they want to be treated with respect etc but that means different things to different people . it could mean listening to them - or it could mean talking to them - depending on the situation and that's where I som...

I like your article, I really liked the comparison you made about if people treated a heart attack like they treat autism. Also the was the part about things being ramped up to 11 a Spinal Tap reference? if so that is awesome. But yeah I think it makes more sense we don't lack empathy but are so ov...

:) Clandestine, what you said is true too! NTs expect us to be like them and if not, we're the ones with the empathy problems, right? :) (I'm planning a post on that topic, too.) We do need to evaluate our expectations in light of NT expectations and not feel ashamed when we choose to take care of o...

I wrote about this on my blog -- not guilt so much, but shame. (Most people conflate the two, but there's a difference). I think as autists, we're more at risk to feel toxic shame just for being who we are. Maybe this will help. http://www.lunalindsey.com/2013/11/auti ... shame.html

No, that's cool. I can't even write at all really. It is an ordeal to even write a paragraph for me. I can write as if I was talking, but creative writing is not gonna happen. It's really neat that you are good at it. :) Also, I love reading, but apparently I am scatterbrained today. I think that's...

I kinda read it. It was interesting, but I'm not quite sure I understood what you meant. Probably because my mind wants to skim over long stuff right now for some reason. I'll try to give it another read later. :o Hehe, I know the feel: TL;DR. And I tend to write really long. That's my aspie tenden...

Hey JSBACHlover! I'm sorry you couldn't get into it. I start out being all philosophical and going all Joseph Campbell about narratives and story. :) Maybe that's why? Emiruko, lol. Glad you find it interesting. I hope you get to the Splines Theory post. That's still my favorite and I want everyone ...

Hi everyone! I've written another blog post. This one's a review of Frozen, in which I talk about many things, including how the Frozen story is a resounding metaphor for Aspergers and autism. http://www.lunalindsey.com/2014/02/reflected-in-ice-aspergers-review-of.html This review is mildly spoilery...
