I think you should go by the general rule of not telling the employer unless it's a last resort - or unless everything is super positive and great and they love your husband in that job. I hate to say this because it would be great if people could just talk openly about Aspergers and learn from each...

They don't seem to be thing in Canada. I've never met a student from any of my local universities who were part of one. The only two people I ever met who were in a sorority were in their thirties and it wasn't affiliated with a university - just a sorority for women who want to be in a sorority for...

BuyerBeware, that's fascinating! I now recall something like this from some movie or other. The girls had to dress up and try to get accepted in sororities. Ugh.... I'm proud of your attitude after all that. There's no point hiding your true feelings about something just because you've been led to b...

Yeah, I have thought about this - pretty heavily too. I haven't been in a position to join a sorority but I had the chance to spend some time around Rotary club people and I came to a similar conclusion as you have about fraternities/sororities. I have to preface this by saying that the Rotary club ...

I had an imaginary boyfriend when I was in my early teens. He was from a particular historical era/event and had a backstory complete with an entire universe to go along with him and explain his existence. I don't think I ever fully believed he was real - but I came pretty close to it. I could "feel...

Ugh, sorry guys! Those questions I came up with are pretty awful. I don't really know what I was thinking last night - "thinking out loud" to you guys I guess. I actually don't like scenario-type questions either, for the same reasons you mentioned (good list Rocket123 !). I guess the conclusion I r...

I understand. Sometimes you just have to work with what you've got.

people that don't know me well think I am very laid-back because of executive dysfunction, others that do know me like my sister may see me as rigid and pessimistic, but I am totally not. Based on how much more rigid I would have been, and instead I am always trying new things, I have a very positi...

You can explain things to the family doctor too, and if they are stubborn for no good reason, you also have the right to switch to a different general practitioner. I just want you realize that you are never stuck in a situation where you feel powerless or ignored. You never have to be - just rememb...

League Girl , I like what you said. That actually makes a ton of sense. Autism is a physiological condition, not a personality. We have a condition, and our personality as well. The condition might make it harder to notice social cues or to learn some things, but the underlying personality will dri...

Just ask for advice from this new doctor, it can't hurt. You have a right to ask your doctors anything - as well as a right to seek a new doctor.

An example of the personality thing, I have an aspie best friend, I call her like that, she was never evaluated but she has the same traits as I do. When we were 10 yo or so we were nearly the same and with the same issues. Then she moved to another state and now we are 19 yo and our traits develop...

Make sure you bring up the fact that you don't think your current diagnoses fit and why, as well as your concerns about the medications ("What if I don't actually need these?" Etc.)

I'm glad you're doing this for yourself. I wish you all the best.

Oh okay. I live in BC, so things probably work slightly differently there for healthcare. It strikes me as odd that there are no places that will test adults. How did you manage to make an appointment to get tested in that case? The psychologist who did my testing normally does it on children and it...

The character of Sheldon was not written to be an autistic person. I think the show's creator(s?) said that he was based on a number of people he used to work with. Some of those people were probably autistic, others were probably "just nerds," but regardless, Sheldon is just a character based on so...
