Yeah, it's pretty tricky. A while back I saw someone on tumblr say that telling someone with social difficulties to just talk to people is like telling someone who wants to learn to play the piano to just press keys. It is nice knowing I'm not the only one, though. I've been reading things like this...

I'm wondering if anyone here struggles with talking in the same way that I do. For a long time now ( or maybe always?), I've had this anxiety about accidentally saying something horrible. Like, I know I've always had a tendency to pick up on/mimic the way other people talk, so even just something li...

I've been noticing lately that I think I'm more sensitive to things like arguments and confrontations than most people are. Some of my family members spend a lot of time bickering with each other, and when they do it seems like it bothers me a lot more than it bothers them. When they start arguing, ...

How so and I thought Ed was a boy She's socially odd and eccentric her friend is a dog she's a computer savant she "stims" almost constantly she talks oddly [in comparison to others] people think she's a boy (she's androgynous) :P I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it it does make a...

One of the things I struggle with most with my executive function is switching between tasks; it takes me forever to stop or start what I'm doing or to switch my brain to a different mode. But if I do some kind of work where I get over-focused (something like drawing, for example) I can get really b...

For a while now I've been trying to add new habits to my day-to-day life (like exercise, meditation to help with anxiety, a couple other things), but I'm so stuck in my daily routine that I have trouble actually doing it. I have the time to do those things, but I have trouble with motivation and ene...

I'm glad I found this thread, because I've been struggling with a lot of the same things discussed here. I'm an unemployed college grad living with my parents, and for a long time now I've been trying to figure out what kind of career I could have that won't make me absolutely miserable. I did try o...

I've never had much of a reaction to caffeine. Sometimes I think it even makes me a bit sleepy, actually. But even though I don't think it makes me feel any difference, it does keep me awake at night if I have it too late in the day, so I try not to have any caffeine after 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

I've done some swing dancing and a tiny bit of salsa dancing. I've only ever danced as a follow, and in my experience it's easier to dance with a lead who knows what they're doing and is decisive in their movements. I've always thought that learning to follow is a lot easier than leading, but I've m...

I took Zoloft for about a decade, but about a year ago I decided it wasn't cutting it, so I switched that to Viibryd. Then I'm taking Guanfacine for Tourette's tics, two different pills for asthma and allergies, and probably something else I'm forgetting. I tried taking something for anxiety for a w...

I've read a lot of sources that say that, to be officially diagnosed, Aspergers/autism symptoms have to show before the age of 3. But what kinds of symptoms need to be present? I've looked it up, but most of the sources I've found talk about children on the lower-functioning end of the spectrum. But...

I was diagnosed with Tourette's when I was around 13 for tics like eye-twitching/blinking and throat-clearing. I'm medicated for that, but it's never been a huge issue. Recently, since I've started reading up on Asperger's and trying to determine if I have it (or if I should try to get a professiona...

I don't have any advice for the medications, but I have heard that it's pretty common for OCD rituals/obsessions to change over time. I'm afraid I don't have a source for that, though.

I know it's difficult, but it really sounds like you need some advice from a professional. You could consider getting a second opinion from a different doctor, or else you could try looking at therapists.psychologytoday(.)com to try and find yourself a therapist where you live. A lot of therapists p...

This sounds exactly like me (except that I've been diagnosed with depression, social/general anxiety, and Tourettes, and haven't talked to a professional yet about Asperger's). I think it's really common to be worried about being a faker or lying to yourself and others, especially for people with an...

I think I've also had some derealization occasionally; I have no idea if it's connected to Asperger's/autism, but then I also don't know whether or not I have Aspergers myself.
