I wonder if its our hypersensitivity to over stimulation. A lot of emphasis is put on how we suffer sensory overload from sounds and lights ect, but what about thoughts and ideas. Our thoughts are a kind of sensory input too, and I often find that too many ideas rattling around my head often results...

Lol I went to art college so I know what abstract and abstract expressionism is supposed to be about, it just doesn't work for me. I listen to all the explanations and descriptions and just think yeah ok if you say so! The only abstract artist I ever really got was Mark Rothko, I kinda like to lose ...

I already knew what stimming was because my autistic son does it a lot. But until I was diagnosed with apergers last month I didn't realise how much I did it myself, knee bouncing being the most obvious thing ( I lways took it to be an uncontrolled nervous tick) I don't think I do the arm flapping t...

Hmm interesting question, I was definitely different at school, very shy and introverted, but also very talented as an artist. At the age of 7 I could already sculpt a realistic human face from clay! its the one thing people always remember about me from infant school (they conveniently forget about...

Turned 50 last year, got diagnosed with Aspergers, adhd & dyspraxia last month. I did try working in a proper 9-5 job as an engineer once, but found the whole office politics thing too stressful and quit after about one year. Most of my life though I've been a professional artist, so I've been l...

I won't touch artificial sweeteners, even before I started to hear about their toxic effects I found that even the smallest trace gives me a sore throat, and if I take enough Headaches too. Its a pain because I love lemonade, and its very difficult to find sweetener free lemonade these days. To be h...

At 50 years old I've only just found out I have Aspergers so hadn't even heard of the term neurotypical. Until now I just considered myself an eccentric artist, and I always kinda liked being different, so no, I wouldn't choose to be NT. If anything I think my Aspergers has made me a better person, ...

Hi Fleur, I've just joined here too. I've just been diagnosed with Aspergers at the age of 50, so I totally get how you feel (and I was misdiagnosed with social phobia disorder ten years back but like you knew it didn't really fit). Its a huge thing to have to take in, but its also liberating to fin...

Hi, I'm new here so please be gentle with me ;) My six year old son was diagnosed with Autism last year (after a lengthy process of dealing with endless official organisations of course) which is fine by me cause he is the most wonderful son a guy could wish for. As a result of further investigation...
