He was extremely authoritarian and I was scared of him growing up. I was quite a handful for my mom. As an example, I remember her taking me to the shopping mall and hiding in the clothes rack, waiting for her to find me. Or, her taking me to the shoe store and having me run around the store crying...

I am VERY sensitive to light touch on my back. Touch my back and I literally jump and freak out. I once tried to get a massage from a massage therapist, but every time the therapist touched my back I leaped off the table. It's too bad because massages look like they're relaxing. A firm bear hug does...

Baby pictures of you smiling or looking at the camera are NOT sufficient to determine whether or not you have autism. My son is severely autistic and until very recently non-verbal. He has been diagnosed with classic autism by four different doctors - two psychologists, a developmental pediatrician,...

I was born a man and I'm quite content being one. I have no desire to be the opposite gender.

I wrote my first computer game when I was only 7 years old. Now I work in Silicon Valley as a Senior Software Engineer for a popular website with over 20,000,000+ active users. Funny thing is, I never wanted to be a programmer. I just had a gift for it and picked it up very quickly. I also taught so...

I received my driver's license when I was 16 years old. I actually backed into another car in the DMV parking lot on my driving test, but they still passed me! Most people don't like driving with me though. They say I drive like an old lady. I also have no depth perception, so pulling out on to a bu...

I have noticed that I can't really notice details. For example, today in art lesson, teacher showed us a video of one theater member talking about art. There was one jacket with Estonian and Russian flag. At first I did not notice flags, I just saw color mess there, but after 3-4 minutes I finally ...

Socializing has never been a good skill of mine....maybe some girls with AS are better at blending in due to that, but I am not one of them. I do observe people and what not but that doesn't mean I'd know how to imitate them or even pull it off successfully. So I think that is more of a it depends ...

I almost never swear in public. I did a few months ago though when I severely dislocated my knee. The pain was incredible and I let a few f-words out. It wasn't something I thought about, it was purely reactionary. I do occasionally swear after I've consumed large amounts of alcohol, but I rarely dr...

I seem to be very similar to most of you. I have a very hard time finishing things, especially large projects. When I was younger I was very good at playing guitar, but I just had such a hard time finishing any songs. I'm a programmer now and have the same problem. I'll start a project but have a ha...

The two items that I must carry with me at all times are my knife and my cell phone. I couldn't include my cell phone in the picture since that's what I took the picture with. Very interesting how so many of us carry knives.

This is from The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome by Dr. Tony Attwood: Recent research has indicated that 46 per cent of the first-degree relatives of a child with Asperger's syndrome have a similar profile of abilities and behaviour (Volkmar, Klin and Pauls 1998), although usually to a degree ...

I wear the same pair of pants everyday. I have other pairs, but these ones just fit me better than the rest. I wash them at the end of the week. At night I put them on the floor. Shirts I only wear once then place them in the dirty laundry pile to wash.

My obsession when I was young was antennas. I LOVED to design and build antennas. Yagis, quads, dipoles, parabolic dish... Those were fun times. My next major obsession was probably motorcycle accident statistics. Kind of gruesome I guess. I had a very detailed database of motorcycle accidents. I ha...

I work as a software engineer. It wasn't my first career choice, I just seemed to have a natural gift for it. I have a lot of trouble keeping jobs though. My average job life span is just a few months.
