I've experienced this my entire life. As a toddler, little kid, I do seem to recall a lack of thinking. Specifically, I remember adults waving their hands in front of my face to get my attention. As an adult, I've learned how to function through them. My therapist used to catch me falling into a sta... |

Does anybody have a problem with words disappearing from their mind when anxious? For me when I get anxious, my thoughts become visual instead of word based. The more stressed I am, the brighter the images in my mind and the fewer words I have. I am still able to speak, but my words come out jumbled... |

Autistic burnout could be better called autistic overload. A quote from the UK autistic web page describes autistic burnout as: ‘‘Autistic burnout is a state of physical and mental fatigue, heightened stress, and diminished capacity to manage life skills, sensory input, and/or social interactions, w... |

I've found it to be a mixed bag. For me, it is a very big help with anxiety. It also screws with my sensory processing, which if I have to deal with people or other stressful things, it makes things worse. Smoking a little at night makes my next day better. Smoking a little during the day makes thin... |

Not sure if this qualifies as language ability, I have problems with words in general. This problem gets worse when I'm stressed. When I say words in general, I can look at an object and not know what it is called. An every day object that I may use every day, and not know what it is called. I will ... |

I get really disturbed by sounds, the swithboard at work, and ventilation, the kitchen klock at home, and the fridge. Strangely I don't mind the buzzing from the heating system. /Mats For me, it is ALL of the quiet or soft or little sounds. I usually have a secondary sound source to drown out all o... |

Auditory hypersensitivity is very common among people with ASD. Abnormal hypersensitivity, low tolerance for auditory sensory stimuli, inability to focus on one sensory source while placed in a environment that is busy (has more than one source) The name audiologists use for low tolerance is misoph... |

I do not think I get light sensitivity much though there are times when they fill rooms with lots of those long striplights that it is too much and can cause headaches or the sun can make me squint, but I always thought this was normal? I am usually ok with striplights unless they flicker. Now if I... |

I think in both and it changes depending on stress/anxiety levels. Under normal conditions, I think in mostly words with images thrown in here and there. If stressed enough, my thinking can convert to fully visual which in turn causes problems with my speaking which in turn increases my stress level... |

It's been a while since I started a new thread. I'm going to go out on a limb that I am not the only one who can only truly feel comfortable when I'm removed from civilization and just alone with my thoughts surrounded by nature? So much of this modern world upsets my very sensitive nervous system ... |

People think solitude is bad because it can cause permanent psychological harm to normal people. There are laws that limit the amount of solitary confinement time a prison can use on it's prisoners. There are many incidents that tell of how a man has changed after being in solitary confinement to lo... |

In a very deep panic attack, a person can go non-verbal. It is referred to as "tonic immobility". It is also common in animals. When a person is in a traumatized state, they physically lose their ability to talk. One of the things that Bessel van der Kolk showed when he first started to d... |

I can't think so great if I get stressed/overwhelmed and have, on numerous occasions, gone mute. I struggle to find and or form words. I think more in concepts or feelings. General ideas. Makes for some communication difficulties, that's for sure. My thinking gets sped up too. It makes it harder to... |

All of my earworms are songs from my childhood. This ranges from TV theme songs, (Gilligan's Island, Looney Toons, etc.) to elementary school songs, (I know an old lady who swallowed...) to junior high band songs. |
