I took advanced comp (the non-traditional high school version of AP) and while it was a college-level course, I still had an A+ average in the class. Be ready for a lot of analytical reading, and be ready to think outside the box. Also, you'll have to seriously tighten the organization of any writin...

I got a sweet deal from the university I'm attending so I'm going to end up paying less than 2.5k per semester for a school that would normally be 15.5k per semester. Does anyone have bad social experiences that still haunt you? I'm not even sure if I want to make friends sometimes. Too many bad pas...

My advice is to try to be more social and get out of your comfort zone a bit. In my freshman year, I didn't push myself at all. After I went to class and did my work I gave myself much more downtime than I needed, and now I regret not trying to make friends with that time. Even if you don't want to...

I'm gonna be a freshman in college this year and I'm more than a little scared. Not of the academics, I know I can handle college-level work, but I'm scared of the new dynamics and whether or not I'll be able to make friends, assuming that I decide I actually want friends.

My sentiments exactly. Arguments are too often done with a goal of determining who is right, rather than what is right. I'm all for discussion, but both parties have to be open to the idea that maybe, just maybe, they're not the one who's right.

Find a song that calms you down and listen to it. Sometimes just having earbuds in or headphones on helps too, even if you can't handle music playing through them at the time (sometimes I can't handle having music playing through them.) Try to avoid heavily processed foods. I find that when I keep m...

Talk too fast, talk about stuff no one else cares about, talking in general, been told I'm pretentious so there's probably something there, say "oh that's easy is that all" when it's apparently not easy I guess...

I once went around wearing earbuds even though there was no music playing. It kept most people from talking to me, which was good because if I notice someone talking to me I literally can't ignore them; I'm hardwired that way from years of my parents scolding me for ignoring people talking to me. I ...

I've had a whole semester and a quarter of calculus.
I find it to be easier than precalculus and more fun than algebra, but I get told over and over again that I'm a math geek (and I can't argue with that.) |

I swim. If I don't swim I slowly lose it completely until I end up crying myself to sleep for many consecutive days. Honestly I recommend trying to reconcile yourself with the darker parts, it's easier when you can say "This is who I am and yeah I'm not always okay with that but it's a fact of ...

I can't pinpoint any one event and say "that's the worst one." It wasn't about the discrete events. It wasn't the spitballs, and it wasn't the names, and it wasn't lifting my skirt with a meter-stick and laughing at my underwear, and it wasn't the exclusion from games, clubs and events. I...

I don't have a designated bedtime as long as I sleep for more than an hour. My mother's words, not mine. Last night I stayed up until about 1:30 am, and the night before about 11:45-ish. It varies. On a similar vein, my mother doesn't care how late I stay up as long as I'm asleep before she wakes u...

I don't make friends easily to start with, but it feels like most of my friendships that do happen tend to slowly deteriorate until the relationship is either nonexistent or mutually harmful.
Anyone have similar experiences? |
