The old saying was that "the sun never sets on the British Empire" because it spanned the globe. And yet Britain seems to be fairing alright since the collapse of its empire which officially ended in 1979.
The US was never really an empire to begin with. |

We have just about all of one coronavirus and influenza season's data.
You know, November 2019 - April 2020 which about 90% of the 2019-2020 cold and flu season.

| The situation seems to be white people complaining about the term Chinese Virus because Chinese people are not white, at which point race rather than place of origin comes into play.
