Well of course it's made for NTs, everything is made for people of the dominant neurological configuration.

Interesting thought, my answer would be that people go on cruises specifically to get away fro life for a while, and that means going solo. That being said, I'm sure there have been single men people find creepy that go one cruises alone, but I can't say for certain because I've never been on one.

How are Aspie obsessions different than just "interests"?

Hi, hopefully this post isn't too late. I've heard a lot of good things about Augsburg College in terms of ASD support. It's a bit on the pricier side though, being a private school. I'd imagine you'd know a bit about it since you're in state but anyways just thought I'd help.

My guess is that this is a (really terrible) smokescreen argument, probably something of a nationalist nature. The councilman expresses his preference for Miś Uszatek, the local homegrown character, rather than Winnie-the-Pooh, in his mind a symbol of western imperialism and commercialism. Just anot...

I want to move because I just don't fit in Iowa City. It is soo much like high school where it is all just cliques Yeah I've noticed too that cliques exist past high school and college also. I suppose it's just kind of human nature to separate ourselves into arbitrary groups that don't have much in...

Does anyone else have trouble handling the awkwardness of towards someone else coming form the opposite direction in the hallway? It's like, there's an impending social interaction about to happen, which is trouble in of itself. And but not only that, but technically the interaction is already happe...

Honestly I think it would be a misnomer if you "came out" as autistic. When you come out when you're gay, it may not be entirely obvious beforehand whether you were attracted to people of the same sex. Coming out may come as a bit of a shock to some. But in the case of ASD, people who are around you...

I suppose some colleges, especially those quirky lib arts schools, might actually embrace that kind of thing and give you a greater chance of getting in (dunno if this is actually true though). Maybe some schools are apprehensive about admitting aspies because they're afraid they're going to go on a...

I think you're misunderstanding the situation. The reason why ALEKS has higher standards is because the program is designed to be a more advanced math curriculum than mainstream school. I understand how frusting it can be, I did ALEKS in 7th grade. Maybe you shoudl get tested for ADD?

What are the challenges you college students have to face while you are in college? Accelerated Learning: You will be expected to read at least a dozen books for each class; more, if your major is English or Philosophy. Challenges to Beliefs: Every opinion you've ever held will be held up to ridicu...

I procrastinated all the way through my Ph.D. and still do. I've given two keynote talks this year and for both of them I finally got around to making my slides at ~2am the morning of the talk. What's changed is that I no longer beat myself up over it. I (reliably) do good work when I've boxed myse...

Most schools have lowered the ball on what qualifies for a good grade. Kids have long been able to do well by cramming to do something at the last minute. That's why it's laughable when someone WITHOUT a learning disability complains about not being able to get good grades. The schools (at least mo...

I got extra time for AP tests and the SAT and I was very embarrassed by the thought that I might be inferior than other people. What ended up happening in the case of the SAT was that I ended up ending earlier, which pissed my dad off a bit. I ended up finishing the whole thing getting a pretty dece...

Having autism is definitely a stigma in the US, and it sounds like it is in Spain too. I guess the real thing you should do is to show your love and support for your son no matter what labels he may be applied with. Besides, you can explain that autism is defined as a spectrum, and that the more sev...

I suppose I'll speak from an aspie's perspective since that's what I'm most versed in. In general, college has just WAY more stuff than high school, both academically and life experience. This is especially true of larger schools, but also for small and liberal arts schools. That being said, I suppo...
