The doctor appointment we had yesterday was actually to test him for auditory processing disorder. He often has no repsonse when being talked to or will have a delay in answering (hearing test was great). An OT that had been working with him thought he may have it. In the mountain of paperwork we ha...

Our son was diagnosed on the spectrum at 20mos of age, Aspergers at age 4 and today (age 6) we went to a new doctor who feels that ADHD in addition to the Asperger's diagnosis is the right fit for him. She said it is becomming increasingly common for the two to overlap. Anyone else have this double ...

You are right I now, but it is so hard. We have been the best of friends for years, even before we were thinking of kids. It just drives me to the point of insanity. I have to bite my tongue not to yell at them. I don't even know if I more mad that they will so easily yell at our son as much as they...

Anyone have a suggestion? My husband's brother/wife have a son that is the same age as our son (6yr old Aspie, diagnosed at 20mons). They let their son do/say as he pleases. There are no boundaries, he's rude and a smartass. However, they are very quick to yell at our son, even if he isn't doing any...

Hi. My son was diagnosed with autism at 20 months and then Asperger's at age 4, and he'll be 6 this summer. The best advice that I can try to give is to learn as much as you can and try to become the best advocate you can. I'm still working on both, and probably always will be, but you have to keep ...

Where do I start? Anyone have suggestions for issues at school? Our 5yr old is having a miserable time. He leaves the classroom on his own (no doors on the rooms) daily, gets very upset very quickly, any progress we've made with transitioning seems to be gone, and I can't get the school to do much a...

Hi! Thanks to all for the welcomes! This is a wonderful outlet....we do belong to a great support group, but our son does have different issues than many of the families we connect with. I'm excited to learn all I can from anyone else who may be dealing with similar situations. Anyone dealt with str...

Hi! He does fall asleep on his own, and thankfully he always has. It's the early rising that is such an issue. If we felt he could make it through the day on the sleep he gets, that would be one thing, but he can't. We did talk to the doctor about Melatonin, but we were told it works more to help fo...

Hi! He does fall asleep on his own, and thankfully we really haven't had problems with that....it's just the waking so early. We did talk to the doctor about Melatonin as well, but we were told it helps more to induce sleep, and really wouldn't do much for our son, but we could try it if we wanted t...

Our little guy has ALWAYS been an early riser, and wouldn't nap unless we were at home. He started Kindergarten this year, and sleep has become an issue. We've recently have had days when he's up at 3:30am, and he's wide awake. He never goes back to sleep once he's up. School is suffering and so is ...

Hi there... we have a 5 1/2yr old with anger issues too. We struggle with getting him to understand that we have the authority in the house as well. We started working with a behavior therapist in the last month, and although it has been very hard, I really think we are making some great progress. W...
