My 5yr boy old with ASD does this. Although he does it to the extreme by echoing and re-enacting every TV show, video game, of his current obsessed interest. Unfortunately I don't have much advice on this, we're trying to figure it out as well. Mimicking other children is really his way of playing w...

Aspies don't lack imagination. If anything, they're better at it than NT's. Heck, I myself used to come up with extremely detailed imaginary worlds, with the details down to the patterns on lampshades. Almost always, my imagination games were solitary. The one I remember best consisted of me pacing...

I have two boys, 5.5yr old with ASD and 2.5 NT. My older boy is certainly not aggressive, I would say he's much more scared of the environment than anything. Most NT boys I see in kindergarten do a lot of roughhousing in the playground and my son avoids that and any confrontation at all costs, for g...

So my son (call him "J") talked about it a bit more tonight and he continued to hint that he feels different than others. My son really looks up to the popular boy in his class (call him "L"). He's the boy that came over as a playdate in the summer that went.. ok. My son said "we do a lot of the sam...

Thanks everyone, great information - pretty much what I expected to hear I guess. I didn't speak with him last night any further, he was in the "don't talk about me" mode. He's obsessed beyond words with power rangers right now and it's about as linear in focus as you can get. He cannot for the life...

Someone else recommended to me that I should be asking him the questions of why he feels this way instead of assuring him that he's not playing wrong and that he has friends. I tend to agree, I think I jumped too quick to respond as my first instinct to try to just cheer him up. I got to remind myse...

Truthfully, at age 5, kids don't usually know how to follow rules to games and/or want to rules to suit them. Even kids who are "normal." Even the most "normal" kid at age 5 can't, for example, play Monopoly for long without having a fit. Yep...I would continue to emphasize that there's nothing "wr...

Ok so I'm pretty sure many here can relate. My son is 5 and in senior kindergarten (his second year of full time kindergarten). He gets along with kids in his class he even had 5 or 6 of them come to his birthday party in the summer. Quick background: Every morning when I drop him off at school he r...

He may need something really reinforcing that he ONLY gets when he pees in the potty. That way you can check in with him and remind him that if he goes pee in the potty then he gets to have __________. (make it sound like the most amazing prize in the world.....gotta sell it!) Sorry to be a wet bla...

My son is 5, has ASD and gets sick just as much as any other kid, if not more. Most people don't get sick as often in the summer as they do in the winter, unless your son has super powers it's likely just coincidence.

I think a lot of parents here can relate to hard time with bathroom training. My son is 5 but 2 years ago every time I put my son on the potty I read him that book linked above from ASDMommy, also as a night time book a couple of times a week. It's a good reference and for my son helped I think reit...

My son turns 5 on Tuesday, he's exactly the same. However, he has a heightened sensitive to sugar and food textures and thus he feels his choices are extremely limited. Is this possible with your son, or something similar? Put it this way, the most candy he's 'ate' was holding a sucker in his mouth ...

This also would have been most beneficial in post #1 instead of suggesting to move as a option or even bringing up going to the authorities with t... |
