Hi, I was in Wroc?aw a few weeks ago and bought a Polish dictionary. I started reading the dictionary from "A", and was really surprised at how many words are cognates with germanic or romance language words. I was able to guess the meanings of a large percentage of the words I read. But I wasn't ab...

I was 5 years in a relationship with an NPD. My mother has narcissistic
parenting style, so narcissism
is nothing new for me, even if I didn't know how to recognize it
until recently.

I am rather partial to the theory that one form of homosexuality occurs when a male is born with female pheromone receptors (or vice versa). The research showing that gay males respond like women to pheromones was reported in the New York Times a couple of years ago. See http://www.yawningbread.org/...

I went to a club last night and did not self-medicate on alcohol. I came home completely euphoric that I was able to stay at a club for a couple of hours without alcohol, without sensory overload, and without disabling social anxieties. I don't know if I will ever be able to repeat the experiment, b...

Yesterday, I was at the gay Pride Festival in Reykjavik. It was overwhelming to see first-hand how open and tolerant the society is here. Sixty-thousand people showed up in support (which is about 1 in every 5 people living in Iceland). Mothers were there with young children in strollers. Other chil...

If X and Y are odd, then the sum of their squares is congruent to 2 mod 4.
However, any square of an even number Z is congruent to 0 mod 4. Hence,
X and Y cannot both be odd.

I've read the entire Bible a few times and the New Testament many times. For a number of years, religious issues were an obsession. I studied every word as if my eternal salvation depended on it. Looking back on the experience, I guess my obsession wasn't too surprising, given that I was raised by a...

You might lack a theory of mind if (YMLATOMI): - You cannot understand why it isn't easy for everyone to solve a Rubik's cube blindfolded. - You are incapable of predicting how you will respond emotionally to a major life decision such as ending a long-term relationship. - You believe that since you...

The empirical tests of ToM seem quite flawed. Many of them, such as the false-belief task discussed in the Wiki article, ask questions that can be answered by simple deductive reasoning based on a simple set of ground rules. My deductive abilities were sufficient at age 4 to have have passed all the...

Most people dont know I have AS but they do kind of talk down to me like I am much younger than my age. I am 20 and they treat me as if I am in my early teens. I wonder if this is due to my anxiety, AS or personality. BenJ, I really like your avatar of the Ricci curvature tensor! You have captured ...

I haven't been able to figure out precisely what a meltdown is. I get confused everytime the subject comes up. From what I've read at WP, it seems to mean so many different things to different people. For some it can mean a fit of rage, for others it can mean an incapacitating sensory overload. I ju...

Your story is similar to mine in various ways. I am in my 40s too, and was diagnosed earlier this year with AS. I've been in a 12-step program and therapy for the past few years. As a result of a series of bad relationships, I've withdrawn from almost all social interaction. Right now, I'm just tryi...

I was pretty messed up for quite a while, but it has been six years now... I read your posts and the pain of what you are going through becomes very r...
