It is my attitude that going to a restaurant is asking someone to be your mommy a hour, and they should be treated accordingly. But I do party better than pay my mom.

I can be pretty childlike. My obsessions right now skew towards the non-functional singular focuses associated with the autism stereotype. Namely, I am obsessed with my brother's cat (typically manifested by near constant exhortations that "Sookie's fat!" I also love, love, love gibbons. Needless to...

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I have barely even a layman's understanding, but don't the studies which show autistics to have up to 70% more neuronal connections in the pre-frontal cortex as a result (possibly) a limitation in the typical pruning of synapses that accompanies maturation suggest that we...

I don't believe in god and I guess there are two good reasons why not. 1) There is absolutely no evidence for the strong claim that there exists the sort of world-explaining god that both poly- and monotheism posit. 2) The notion of a god itself stands in need of an explanation and therefore cannot ...

The Eden Express by Mark Vonnegut is a good first-person account of the highs and lows of schizophrenia written in a sort of beat poet-y style.

How you approach it should be determined at least in part by what kind of a guy he is. If he's the sort whom you can just say things to, then tell him straight out. If you think he could become defensive or angry, then you need to be subtle. Maybe you could introduce him to some of your autistic fri...

I'm going to an all-inclusive resort thingy in Mexico next week for two weeks and I'm wondering if anybody has any advice on how my parents and I can go about not murdering each other on our trip. I know the sorts of things I need to feel OK (solitude, etc.), but these are often at odds with the wei...

It is mindless confusion over obvious things like this that convince me there are a great many misdiagnoses where HF/AS are concerned. If you truly suffered from autism, this would be a no-brainer . Being autistic and being knowledgeable about autism are two distinct things. A child diagnosed with ...

I can relate quite well to you, Ezra. I was a very gullible and persuadable child. I was lucky to recognize this in adolescence and work hard to correct it, but I'm still pretty malleable in that regard. I also share the same paradoxical stubborn streak. It's odd, the things we capitulate to and the...

We don't know. Only appropriately-trained, experienced and licensed mental-health professionals can make a valid diagnosis of an SPD, and there seems to be no such professional on WrongPlanet. Online tests can not provide an objective SPD diagnosis, either. He may have medical issues, instead. Get ...

I tell people whom I think ought to know, or people I feel close enough to tell. That said, I have no shame about it. My parents tell just about everybody they know about my recent diagnosis, and it doesn't bother me.

I'll try to relate the feeling as much as I can, as I'm interested to see if others have the same experience as I do. I feel a persistent feeling of overstimulation, like a humming or buzzing, in my fingertips and toes. It is there all the time and, of course, is more annoying the more aware of it I...

It is utterly inappropriate for an adult to continually tell a teenager to shut up and to call them a dumbass. He is totally in the wrong, and your aunt is too, for defending him.
