I'm not sure about your situation in particular, but in general yes, Neurotypicals can have the same stims as autistics. For example, clicking a pen, finger or foot tapping, and swinging your leg are all things that many neruotypical do but they are also stims that autistics do.

The rubbing sounds like it could be a stim, but I'm not sure about the skin picking. Some people with anxiety disorders also skin pick, which for them is not stimming, so it could just be an anxious habit of sorts.

I missed the pole. But I also have ADHD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Other diagnoses that I also have that weren't listed are Sensory Processing Disorder, Panic Disorder, Anxiety Disorder NOS, Irlen's Syndrome, a slow reading speed, and a slow processing speed. I also have a writing disability ...

I think it really depends less on your diagnosis, but more on your individual needs. For instance, I'm able to drive and am supported financially by my parents, so it wouldn't make sense for me to get a free bus pass or be eligible for services like para transit. However I know people who have Asper...

Emotional support animals: Since an emotional support animal's role is solely to provide comfort to a person disabled by a mental illness, no special training is necessary, and like Edenthiel said, you can get one just like you would a pet. The legal distinction between a pet and an ESA only comes i...

I hear you about life in general causing stress. I have generalized anxiety disorder, and anything and everything can be a trigger anytime. I have an anxiety disorder but which one I am not sure. Each doctor I have seen over the years has a different opinion. I have been diagnosed with PTSD, Genera...

I did not know it was tax deductible with a dx. That is great news. And thank you for the heads up for etsy. I never even thought to look for one there.

You're welcome. I heard one etsy seller recommended the other day for weighted blankets. I think their name is crazy rabbit or something.

I don't have a monotone voice, though sometimes when I really overloaded, I have trouble with getting out the correct tone of voice. The vast majority of the time I also don't have any trouble making eye contact. I also voted other because I don't have face blindness, which a lot of aspies have. I a...

I got one a year ago and it's been AMAZING! I wish I hadn't waited as long as I did to finally get one. I use it every night to sleep, and it definitely helps. I also use it during the day when I need it (anxiety, sensory overload, meltdowns etc.) Make sure you get the correct weight. The general ru...

Stress definitely can cause an increase in stimming. It does for me. When I start doing a new stim, it's usually during times of particular stress. I hear you about life in general causing stress. I have generalized anxiety disorder, and anything and everything can be a trigger anytime. I can't avoi...

Like others have said, it depends on the individual. I have Aspergers and my sensory issues are more severe than some people I've met with PDDNOS, but my sensory issues have also been less severe than other people I've met with PDDNOS.

I read slowly and I've been diagnosed as having slow reading and processing speeds. I have Irlen's Syndrome which is part of why I have a slow reading speed. My brain can't process some wavelengths of light, so letters appear to move around on the page and appear distorted. Using a colored overlay m...

I get anxious, brain fogged, irritable, and just generally out of sorts because of the weather sometimes. For me it's usually when the barometric is off, like before a thunder storm.

I'm sorry your family isn't supportive with this issue. I've had severe anxiety all my life and I know how hard it is. Have you tried writing down a list of things you want to talk to your psychologist about and then bring that list with you to your appointment? That's helped me a lot in the past. I...

I wouldn't call it stimming either. "Stim" is a slang term for self stimulatory behaviors. They're basically repeatative movements that are self soothing. I really think that stimming is voluntary. A person might not notice that they are stimming, but once they notice they can choose to st...
