Yeah! My son got his first shots this week! It took us three tries, but I am soooo glad we did not force/ hold him down, etc. to do it. I came up with the idea to borrow his friend's gameboy. My son does not have one and I notices when he played his friend's he got really focused and into it and he ...

Wonderful suggestions everyone! Thanks so much. I myself have high anxiety levels with shots. I would much prefer to have blood drawn than get a shot. I am paranoid about "foreign" stuff entering my body. I have birthed three children though and have had to get used to needles with all the tests and...

Does any one have any suggestions about how to get my son to cooperate with the nurses to get his allergy shots? His allergies are very bad and I think the shots will really help him feel better. My husband has allergies and has taken shots for several years, and they have helped him. My son says he...

Wow. I am going to be one of those moms who come post a question and wait for an answer. I do not have the time to read everything or to post back comments. I will try to do updates as I can, but I barely feel like I am keeping my nose above water on most days. I think this forum is wonderful. There...

[quote="Corsarzs"/] amoseli, I do understand the feeling of loneliness, I think everybody on this sight feels it to some degree. I understand that by losing your church home you have lost a type of family. I literally did lose my first family but had it replaced by this marvelous mess I now call my ...

Corsarza, Thanks for the encouragement. It is good to find someone who understands the religious stuff. We are doing well, other than a little lonely at times. I am learning to trust God with this though. ( I actually spent an evening with a friend of mine from our old church, we were able to avoid ...

Hmm.. there does seem to be two groups. One that showed symptoms/traits from birth and those that seemed NT until a certain age and regressed. Maybe that is part of the difference. My son was not one who regressed. His personality/traits showed right from the beginning, day one.

What about other ways of coming in contact with mercury? Fish? tooth fillings? are there other ways? If I understood, one theory had something to do with the measles vaccine also, which did not have the theramasol in it but there have been "reports" of the live virus in peoples intestines and effect...

TOM.... oh, theory of mind! I have seen this phrase but do not know anything about it. It is something I have been wanting to look into. Thanks for reminding me! :)

Conversation is good. When we can respect each other's opinions and experiences and learn from one another instead of arguing or trying to be "right". This is so good. Again, thank you all very much for commenting! When aspies make points, we don't perceive it as disrespecting anyone's opinion and ...

While many NT parents try to understand the emotional, sensory and cognitive differences, I don't think they think about how important a sense of control is for an aspie. I think I am beginning to understand this more. Control is definitey an issue for my husband and I am seeing the connection more...

Wow, I love this conversation! Thank you all for commenting. All of this is helping me to look at things from different perspectives. I think AS has always been a part of the genetic pool, but the changes in culture have caused it to become a "disorder." In Victorian times, an AS man would have been...

And here's the other kicker--I have a sneaking suspicion that there are cases out there that really aren't AS and autism but something else we haven't figured out. Rjaye This would not surprise me. I have that suspicion in the back of my mind about my family, but I would like to put it to rest, so ...

RhondaR, My son sneaks stuff up to his room; chocolate syrup bottles, icecream sprinkles, those icings in a tube, I find the empty containers later under the bed! My daughter doesn't seem to have the asperger's traits that my son has, but she definitely has some ADHD type stuff going on, relatives a...

KimJ, What you are saying makes sense. I guess what I am wondering about with my own family is are there connections between some of my sons health issues and his autistic traits or are they separate things to be dealt with separately. My son has had problems with his bowels since he was little. He ...

I understand about questionable methods and practices, but what if there is/was somekind of connection between some autistic/asperger's/ADHD/spectrum symptoms and toxins? Wouldn't you want to do something about it if you could? I guess I could just wait and see what happens in the medical field........
