Hiker, can you ask this person to limit the chatter so you can work?

Chatter is pretty much the job. I'm kinda like a counsellor or social worker. I'm there to listen and support. For the most part conversations are fine but I don't have the skills to handle over talkers.

I have that SAME problem at the gym in our hot tub and therapy exercise pool. People feel to make comments about your weight etc there. Than prattle on about their kids or grandkids etc. I'm there to exercise - not hear about your life or talk about mine. I imagine in the pool you can at least move...

I had a difficult situation at work today and I am trying to determine ways of handling it better in the future. Normally my social skills are quite good and I can hold a conversation quite well. On this occasion I was with someone who wouldn't stop talking to me. They were talking about random thin...

I had some repetitive behaviours in my teenage years and thought it was OCD. I did some research online and somehow stumbled upon ASD on Wikipedia. I remember reading the wiki and although some of it resonated with me I wasn't totally convinced I was autistic. Years later I went to a mental health s...

There is no simple answer as there are many definitions of what it means to have a ‘disability’ This is set by different laws, policies and regulations. Therefore it depends. If you want my opinion I think Asperger’s is a disability. Asperger’s carries many impairments that are long term and have ad...

Generally, I’m verbally fluent most of the time but it depends on the context and who I’m speaking with. Sometimes I struggle to find the correct words and there is a little delay. And of course, I take most things literally.

You could speak to someone at your Universities student services department. They might have an autism support service or could refer/signpost you to a local autism group.

I wouldn't disclose. There’s a lot of misconceptions and stigma attached to ASD and you may be discriminated against. In my experience there are many people who don't think people on the spectrum are suited for the workplace.

I love wildcamping but haven't done it for a while. I've been to dartmoor and the cairngnorms and enjoy being outside in nature away from society. I've been to Norway a few times and am thinking of staying in the woods during this summer. However, there is a big hurdle that prevents me from going to...

I personally don't like ghosting and wouldn’t want to do it myself, but I think there are some situations where it may be ideal. I have been ghosted in the past and even though we got back together for a while I would have been perfectly happy if she was direct and honest with me at the time.

I second the notion of a mental health support group. I have been going to one for a couple of years now and it's great. Sometimes I even run a group myself. Last year I joined a sports class (badminton) and I love it. I've become friends with the regulars and it's mixed gender. I've actually been t...

Last night I watched the film Mary and Max. If I am not mistaken Max (who had aspergers) disliked the term 'disability' as he saw himself as 'different' and not disabled. I am a bit torn over the correct term. Although I accept that disability is a physical or mental impairment I don't feel comforta...

My girlfriend, whom I also strongly suspect has Asperger’s is really struggling with depression. I am not sure how best to help her. She is very distant and whenever we do speak she never opens up at all. Like me, she is a loner and spends most of her time in isolation. So far, I have been giving he...
