Forum: Love and Dating   Topic: Broke up with girlfriend, I feel terrible

My first girlfriend was probably a borderline. The relationship was a constant roller coaster and I think it has made it even harder for to trust anyone 100% in a relationship. Maybe something related to that is at play here too. As unfair as it is, we all tend to view our current partner in terms ...

Sounds like you're depressed. It's easy to lose focus when you do the same thing every day. It narrows your view.

What has made you happy in the past? What aren't you doing that you should be? Sometimes it helps to visit old friends to reaquaint yourself with the person you used to be.

There were several reasons and issues but I believe the root cause was that I did not find her physically attractive enough. She may have sensed this too, but tried to convince herself otherwise. I believe this had an effect on our sex life. While we did have sex several times a week, and on almost...

Because aspies are safe and relatively calm. And naive. Borderliners flail about on the surface of a sea of doubt, alarm, and emptiness. They can't cope alone, as they don't have their own enduring ideals and values. They need someone else to give their life definition and meaning, and they constant...

I can't STAND it if I am washing my hands or dishes and I reach up and water drips down my arm up into my sleeve/armpit So true. Gets all itchy and won't dry because your sleeve soaks it up. Even worse is when I brush my teeth and the toothpaste+water+saliva mix slides down the brush handle onto my...

So true. Even now, imagine what one can get today compared to just 30 years ago. The average car is more fuel efficient, safer, and has more features than the average car of the 60s. You can buy a computer more powerful than any government could afford 15 years ago. Standards have been rising relent...

One of my more recent observations has been the futility of gaining and using power. I'm not talking about money or weapons, but about social rank. People will buy the right clothes, adopt the right attitude, and denigrate others to achieve it. But what is it? What does it actually get them? My theo...

i used to be very impassioned to join conversations where i did not agree with someone. now i could not give a damn. let them all mull over their fantasies while i go home and do interesting things by myself. This was a turning point for me. I used to love to debate with people over almost anything...

Yeah. When you get too focused on one thing, it's easy to forget the world is still the same. Being able to shrug off failure is invaluable.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Glad to see I'm not alone. Given that I can't really control this, I think I'll simply have to conceal it as best I can. I've spoken out to her a couple of times about it, and yeah, it does nothing but dig you into a hole quick-like. I get it, too. I've had a girlfrie...

Yeah, I don't get this either. I'm a programmer, so I'm pretty familiar with capacity. It doesn't take much to power a (moderately large) forum site. A single server at a colo facility would do the trick easily. I just built and housed a server for a new site recently. The server was ~$3000 and the ...

Does anyone else get plagued with anxiety about their partner? I never used to have this problem, but my current gf is tripping all my alarms. A couple of times it's been almost unbearable. I can't make it stop, either. At work, at home, in the car, in my dreams. It's draining and embarrassing. Whil...

In general, people pay attention to other people only when doing so satisfies them in some way. Maybe the person is attractive to them or has control over something they want. Maybe that person is always flattering and deferential. Maybe they're afraid of that person. Whatever the reason, the person...

Sometimes when I talk about the things I enjoy or the things I have done, I feel almost as though I am exaggerating. It's not that I'm stretching the truth about what I do, but rather that I'm leaving out what I actually spend the most time on. I feel the same way in this regard. For me, it stems f...

Mecha-Shiva almost made me pee my pants with laughter. It's so obnoxiously silly, especially considering how long they do it, and the Monarch's irritated dismissal. I really wish I knew someone I could do that with. How fun would it be to break out in that? Mecha shiva! Mecha shiva! Mecha shiva! ...
