The jokes are prejudiced, in the same way telling a racist or sexist joke would be.

As for people denying I have it, yes! A lot of people say that what I feel is something felt by everyone at some stage. That may well be the case, but I feel like it ALL the time.

I do feel empathy with people, though not really on TV or in films as I know it is not real. However, and I shouldn't really feel like this, I find it far easier to empathise with animals. If I see an animal being maltreated in real life or on TV, I want to intervene. If I see an animal about to die...

I live over the pond. I've attracted a group of what I'd defined as 'haters' before I came across this site. They stem from internet forums as I do a lot of work with consumer rights law, helping people with various problems ranging from debt to bailiffs and more. There is a group who seem to be int...

Brilliant - thank you. I've obviously got a lot to learn as an Aspie and am lucky to have a very tolerant, long suffering and understanding wife. I've got my first meeting tomorrow with my psychiatrist since being diagnosed by the psychologist. I'm feeling quite anxious about it to be honest as unsu...

Thanks - I assume neurotypical means (forgive the expression) 'normal' as in not having ASD?

Not sure if this is in the right place and forgive a daft question. I'm a newly diagnosed Aspie aged 50. I think this site is brilliant but don't know what a 'NT' is? Please could someone explain. Thanks! :D

Just that is REALLY useful to know thank you. I'm so new to this I'm trying to separate the 'condition' from my personality if that makes sense, so that I can see which bits of me are down to the Aspergers and which are just me. That need to withdraw has been playing on my mind recently, so it's goo...

I think there's only one but it's supposed to be very good. I'll report back.

Thanks again.

Thanks! I've not got as far as the support groups yet, but want to start going soon or I'll never go. In fact I think there's one tomorrow night as I think they're on the last Friday of every month, so this thread may have inspired me to go with my carer. I'm massively agoraphobic at present, so get...

It looks like something where possibly 'we' all take our own journey to acceptance. Jensen, did you accept easily or are you struggling to accept?

MrGrumpy, I'm grateful for the reply, thank you. Yes, the psychologist said the strict routine of a 'privileged' education along with a far lesser awareness would have masked things. Also, by the time I left school and went to university I'd have learned certain coping mechanisms which would have ma...
LongStoneMan - did the diagnosis come 'out of the blue', or were you already aware of the possibility?
It came about 5-6 weeks after seeing a psychologist, then two very long sessions with the only specialist psychologist round here who can diagnose ASD. Obviously having had the pos...

Hi Mental, I wonder if I can 'share' your thread as I'm in a virutally identical situation. I'm a 50 year old male in the UK and was diagnosed about 5 weeks ago now. Amazingly I'd forgotten about this site and have just stumbled across it again. I was a Headteacher until about 12 years ago when ment...

What's the point buying new when old but of the more modern generation (reliable) and cheap will do just as well. My Skoda Octavia Estate is all VW bits, including the older 1.9tdi engine which should be good for at least 500000 miles. It does about 40ish mpg, more on a run, less pootling around loc...

Eek! Mine's on borrowed time at 12 years old then. Only done 150000 miles so far, it needs to do at least that again!
