Sometimes people (usually women, thanks misogyny) will confuse fear for attraction because society/media tells us that "butterflies in your stomach" (aka nausea), sweaty palms, blushing, etc are signs of attraction. But they can also be signs of fear or discomfort. I've had to talk myself ...

I've been looking into autism programs at schools near Jersey City (I have to be able to use public transport to visit my sister on a regular basis), and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about them in practice? The materials sound good, but there's a lot of ways they could go wrong. Do progra...

Making themselves the victim when they're the bullies. Someone shoved me down a flight of stairs for not moving fast enough in deadlock, then whined in her statement to Guidance about how awful I was and how she "just wanted me out of her life." One boy shouted death threats, insults, and ...

This thought was inspired by another thread on WP: I am confused by the idea of NTs claiming to be on the autism spectrum for the sole purpose of jumping on some sort of intangible, mysterious bandwagon. I sought help because all of my work arounds and life hacks were finally beginning to wear me d...

I used to read at a picnic table (they generally weren't occupied). I got harassed a lot, but it was the best I could get. There was also one year where I sat on the curb at the edge of the blacktop and played harmonica throughout recess. There was some harassment, but I think they thought I was goo...

I just googled "Somerset County New Jersey autism" and got several hits for schools, organizations, therapists, etc. Then look for contact information and you will have to email them to ask about volunteer opportunities. http://www.somerset-hills.org/aboutus.html http://www.autismnj.org/d...

How often do your teachers have office hours? Would it help if you stayed after school and did your homework there, so they could keep an eye on you and help if you need it?

My sense of direction is terrible. I've learned how to get from class to class through habit, really. My NT little sister, meanwhile, was able to give directions for driving to school when she was four.

I find it confusing how other people can be rude to me, and no one pays it any attention, but if I say something back to them, all of a sudden people act like I'm being a horrible b***h and the other person is totally innocent. Or how men can say stuff really direct and to the point, and other peop...
