T...

I have started a course of CBT in the autistic clinic at the Maudsley Hospital. Much of the work will focus on what is OCD and needs to be worked on and what is autism and warrents affirming and accepting. It got me thinking about how I think. A part of me is a very intense philisophical and critica...

I am 44 and Dx HFA only 4 years ago. Up until my Dx I had learned the art of concealing my social awkwardness extremely well. I learned to camouflage myself behind a well rehearsed and socially acceptable facade (NT Mask) I learned to do this well, for as a child a would be abused and humiliated by ...

The following is a cut and paste from the link which I mentioned when starting this thread. It is a conversation between Donna Williams and Nancy Bethor on the subject of how many people in the spectrum have highly attuned sensing abilities and thus great abilities in understanding NVC (Non-Verbal C...

Before my Dx with HFA I trained to be a teacher of the Alexander Technique. My reasons for doing so at the time was that I wanted to be "more in the world and less consumed by it." The AlexanderTechnique helps people to use themselves with greater fluidityand mindfulness in everyday life activities....

Interestingly........ I would not say I have 'special powers' of insight, but I do know that growing up in a home environment which was very abusive taught me adaptive skills that very soon became 2nd nature.......i learned to 'play out of my skin' in order to survive. Being adopted at a very young ...

One of my special interests is unusual expressions of autism. In keeping with this, I am very interested to hear of people in the spectrum who were popular at school. I was well liked myself, but the deeper reality was I was liked for being a clown or chronic people pleaser and not for being myself.

At 1st glance one would think that my ability to achieve superficial social competance alongside good and very affirming eye contact would render be NT and way off the AS radar. However, scratch the surface (ie intimate relationsh...
