I came accross this article by a woman who was diagnosed at the same age as me (40) and found her writing a great sourse of strenght and inspiration. I hope this will be of interest to others members of WP who have found the process of integration (coming to terms with their diagnosis) difficult and...

Hi mutate....nice to be in touch with you....i loved what you said that sometimes you feel like "the one eyed man in the kingdom of the blind". Caught between superior and inferior. I feel exactly the same. The subtle inter-play of social interaction takes more time for me to process, when with non-...

I like what you say LB.

Accepting difference within difference
issuch a challenge for many in the
spectrum......getting rid of AS and
just having the spectrum is a good
move i think.

Much love to you from a trafic jam
in central London.

I know ballerina's, artists, musicians, psychotherapists, life-coaches, writers, models, all who have formal dx with AS/HFA and defy the stereotype of being autistic because it seems their right-brain is as dominant as their left-brain. I have a theory that in the same way that it is fast becoming a...

I process my thoughts like a narrator of my own internal movie theater. Like with subtitles on foreign films. I must process each and every word fully in my mind (hence being visual and verbal)..........bloody exhausting if struggling with lots of issues. Consequently mini- meltdowns are common for ...

I have heard over the years many people, AS and NT, who have expressed the desire to be more in their heart than in their head. My work with people with learning difficulties autistic and non- autistic has taught me that the greatest suffering in humanity comes from a lack of humility and an overact...

I liked what Donna Williams said about the sense of self in the classically autistic being stronger than many with AS. What she meant by this was that the classically autistic person had no desire to adapt and thus developed far less comorbids. Personally I have no interest in computer games and the...

this is one of my favourate pastimes.

Alone on Hampstead Heath at night
I feel alive like no other time.

From a distance I look at London
and feel truly alive. When walking
in the day in the city centre I feel
seperate and distant from others.

Thank you everyone for yr thoughts and sharing yr feelings. I had a dream recently where I landed on earth from a spaceship. I crept out looking for earthlings, hungry for connection, yet terrified at the same time. My images that best convey for me my feelings of alienation are being lost in space....

I was on the diet for 2 years........in the end I came to the conclusion that the 'toxicity' was more in my head than in the Gluten. By that I mean I developed an OCD fear that the portals of hell would open up if I had a common sandwich, consequently I stayed on the diet out of fear of change rathe...

I was wondering if people would like to share their experiences here of feeling alienated and also their experiences of loneliness? I would be particularly interested in a metaphor or image that best conveys your experience of feeling on the 'wrong planet' I have HFA and being an artist I am searchi...
