They are fractious, warring and very competitive. Please, tell me more. Are they really this way? I didn't know that. How is this possible? Yes, there is a great deal of competition in academia, just like anywhere else. One of the most fascinating stories of fierce competition between scientists is...

There is a very interesting BBC Horizon documentary called "The Day I Died" about NDEs and it mentions some of the cases you site in the OP. The most interesting case I saw was of a woman called Pam who went through surgery where they had to make her die for one hour while they operated on her brai...

He has also shown that faith and science are not mutually exclusive and that they may even work together. If you want to honour Lemaitre, bringing up faith and science is a very bad idea. He himself has stressed many times that his scientific theory shouldn´t be associated (or even mentioned in the...

I strongly advise you to contact the Belgian embassy in your country. EU law in combination with the national laws is complicated and changes regularly. You need a specialist to inform you.

I might make you happy with something that won't be available for you, but it's worth checking if it will be in the future. The Dr. Leo Kanner House in Amsterdam is developing a serious game called "Hows" (house/hows). It's being developed for young adults on the spectrum to have some help with livi...

I think the cause why most european countries dont have death sentence anymore, is highly because people dont want to risc that their life one day will be depending on someones personal oppinion. Complete abolishion of the death penalty (both for ordinary crimes and war crimes) is a binding agreeme...

If you want to graph the function, you´ll need to calculate where (or if) the graph crosses the x-axis where y is 0 and therefore f(x) = 0. You can only find out mathematically by factoring the equation. Once you´ve done that, the rest is easy by writing the equation (x-5)(x+2)=0 Because it is a mul...

Not quite. Step 1 is correct. And so is the final solution. But do we really need to apply the quadratic formula and is it applied correctly? Step 2 is correct if you think you can factor the equation Can we? We then need 2 numbers that when added up give -3 and when multiplied give -10 One of them ...

Anecdotal story: It was 30 July 1969. I know because I have photos of the event with the date written beneath them. My cousins had come over to visit, and my family took them to the Dunes on the North Sea coast for a day out. Although I liked my cousins, I was far more interested in the wild life th...

I wonder when the newspapers will come up with a "Super Sun" (around Januari) and if you want really spectacular differences in distance that you can;t see with the unaided eye: what about Super Mars and Super Venus? OK, serious: Astronomers had never heard of 'super moons' until 2011. For reasons n...

The amygdala regulates fear, but why people develop anxiety disorders or 'live in constant fear' as the TV character does, isn't well understood yet. What some scientists think at the moment (it must still be researched more) is that there is a mistake in a particular gene. This gene has the informa...

I probably would have lost all or part of my savings and my pension if the Dutch government hadn't nationalized a large Dutch bank.

The funny thing is that a 'supermoon' hasn't got anything to do with distance to Earth. I think it's rather amusing that some people see astronomical events as portents of some disaster (yes, that was a very bad pun).
