My therapist has defined this as "giving myself love and care."

And until recently: No, I didn't.

I am attempting to now. It's a process.

Yes, and I have spoken to my therapist on this. I expounded as well that I just want to feel happier like most others around me, and that most real happiness I get is short and fleeting(making love to my wife, eating an awesome meal, a great moment in a video game). My therapist basically explained ...

Salome, might I suggest a "sister thread" on this in the Haven? You're likely to get more guaranteed supportive words there.

That said, what you went through is awful and I'm sorry it's affecting you this way. Stay strong.

I have been walked all over, manipulated, abused, taken advantage of, etc. I work in sales (nightmare nightmare nightmare but no new job to move onto yet...) and people walk all over me there, take advantage of my kindness for free, and spend their money with other people who are mean and manipulat...

Aspie1: it was genuine kindness. However, there is an inherent emotional naïveté with children on the spectrum. I heard about a study on Asperger's recently that I think helps explain this: It was basically concluded in the study that people on the spectrum, especially children, have difficulty diff...

Pretty much what Callista had, although there were some motor function tests thrown in(one of which, the tapping test, was excruciatingly painful for me).

Yes. I've had a few that have come up to me and admitted their crush back in the day. Dated two. Slept with another one but did not date. Have also had two girls a couple years later admitting to having a crush on me at one time. I've never been able to tell unless they told me flat out, though, so ...

Unfortunately, the best way to get friends is one of the most uncomfortable things to do, and that is simply: put yourself out there. Online works sometimes, but in person is better. Go out and participate in activities that interest you, and try to meet people at these gatherings. If you like cars,...

I used to really enjoy watching that. I loved spending time with my grandmother, and she was big on watching the weather. She'd have the weather report on and the weather alert radio whenever possible. I found it soothing.

Something else that calms me down: the sound of trains in the distance.

Sorry, I couldn't read the OP without thinking of this. *ahem* moving on... Perhaps it is because labels like "ugly" and "unpopular" are shallow and mildly misogynist? Seriously, treat people like they have value. That includes women. Bec...

A list of mine: -I can hear when a tv is on(but not the cable box so picture is present) as a piercing high pitched whine and it drives me bonkers. -I am sensitive to bright light. -I don't like the sound of motorcycles. -I can't watch shows or movies where water gets on a camera lens as it makes my...
