I've been interested in trying mushrooms (in Minecraft) after learning how safe they actually are. But they are super illegal, despite being safer than alcohol and non-habit forming. Anyway... I've always enjoyed playing around with altering my state of consciousness. I learned lucid dreaming, and e...

I suppose you could say so. They would just be "anarchist police." Instead of reforming the existing police force, many argue that the current police force would have to be abolished completely, and a new system built in its place. Because systemic problems are built into the foundation of...

I'm not sure, but I believe it was the Lord of the Rings. I don't remember seeing Fellowship in theaters, but I think I remember seeing the Battle of Helms Deep in the theater. My big memory is the scene in Return of the King where the nazgul descend on Minas Tirith. I was absolutely blown away, and...

What's the harm in trying? If you don't like the job, you can quit. I will warn you that even though retail/fast food are seen as low end jobs, they can be difficult and I speak from experience there. Lots of sensory stimulus, especially in a kitchen there's lots of noise and temperature changes. An...

Comparing this to other historical events, we're doing pretty good honestly. Descriptions of "brother against brother" fit far more into, say, the second world war than 2020. Seriously, read about the second world war in Belarus. It won't put you in a good mood, but it will remind you that...

Unfortunately filling out online applications and then never hearing back is just how things are nowadays. So if you get rejected, don't take it personal. That said, they could just be busy or whatever and not gotten back to you yet. You can always apply somewhere else, or apply for a new opening at...

Any direct attempt to dissuade you on my part would only be reiterating some cliche you've probably heard before. But I have been there before, and didn't do it. I feel better now, though not great and I still have bad days. But I'm glad I didn't go through with it. I'll die eventually anyway, that'...

That's a wide generalization to make. Of thousands of college students, there are plenty of people there with creative, intellectual or nerdy interests. Even if they're not the majority, there are still dozens of potential people who are friends. Not to mention that there are creative/intellectual ...

You know that we can subsidize small businesses that can't afford to give such leave, right? That is at least an option. And yeah, workers can theoretically move around to find a job that gives them the benefits they want. But, speaking as someone who currently works pretty near the lowest end of wa...

Anarchists want to replace the police with a fundamentally different institution/institutions that would solve the problems that police are supposed to. Not that every person saying "defund the police" is even an anarchist. They're just the most extreme group I can think of that is saying ...

Zatopek! A German punk-jazz band from the 1980s. WARNING! May be really annoying to some people but I love it.

Dark Matter? It's based on a comic I haven't read and is about a crew of mercenaries who wake up on a spaceship with amnesia. After piecing together their identities they go on adventures and generally end up dealing with evil megacorporations. It has modern Whedon-esque banter, and sci-fi, things t...

Purely an anecdote: My grandma got vaccinated (old, so probably a weaker immune system) and didn't suffer any side effects. My dad got vaccinated and felt a little weak + had soreness around the injection.

Doesn't this feel like a conflict of interest though and feel like a stench? China is the one who gave us covid, and we are buying the vaccine from them. That's like say, if someone were to rob a bank, and that bank knows who did it, but they decide to hire the same person to install better securit...

I am cis and would not, unless the majority were in my workplace. Many trans people, after all, wish to simply live as their gender, and seeing people tip-toe around trans/gender issues in their presence makes them feel like they are being recognized as "different." Other trans people disa...

There are certain female celebrities - which I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to mention here - that pitch up their voice and act in an infantile manner in an attempt to be attractive to their audience. It's nothing new - Britney Spears was doing this when she dressed up as a school girl and sang h...
