I wonder if he knows how many senseless arguments he caused, how his claims turned people against their doctors, doctors against their patients, turned friend against friend and held out some sort of existential non hope for those in despair, all for a little bit of money?

Personally, I felt the term originated from radioactive meltdowns at nuclear power stations. Having lived 22 years before there were radioactive meltdowns at nuclear power stations I believe the usual term was 'tantrum' (a violent demonstration of rage or frustration; a sudden burst of ill temper) ...
