Crap. Thank you, for letting us know. Sorry that I've been so clueless about it. I'm starting to suspect this is not the only thread in which I've fallen for troll bait. Since I can't tell the difference, and don't want to make the problem worse, I'm going to take this as a wake-up call, and just st... |

^ Thanks, I just read the transcript - some excellent points there, that were new to me. An issue I have with bluntness, is that I feel it's expected of me, on internet forums. By nature, I'd prefer to use smilies and exclamation points, to show that I mean something in a cheerful, friendly way. But... |

I know that overwhelming feeling, when expectations seem impossible. It can be a symptom of depression, and/or executive functioning problems (both of which are common with autism). Your post reminds of how I feel, at times when I know something is off, but I'm having trouble pinpointing exactly wha... |

Welcome, and I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with family issues, and getting your concerns taken seriously. Have you made progress in finding local resources? I'd start with health insurance providers, city and/or county web sites, and NAMI, to see what programs exist in your area. It's nice mee... |

Listen, yes. Though I think you might not realize - you are especially gifted in being able to say something that's kind and helpful, seemingly without effort. That is a rare talent among autistics. Often I'll try to compose a response to someone, retype it 5 times, worry that it might be unintentio... |

I'm more likely to be identified as an 'easy target' rather than a 'perpetrator', but either way, it's something autistics need to be aware of, and try to mitigate as best we can. I do feel for the predicament of male autistics. Occasionally I will encounter someone who seems to be on the spectrum -... |

Good advice here - this is a topic I struggle with as well. Due to developmental delays, many of us didn't learn adequate interpersonal skills in childhood, and our emotional intelligence is behind the curve as well. It's not our fault, but I understand that it's frustrating to others. It helps me t... |

^ Sometimes in the middle of the night. When I wake up and realize, I'm about to massively drool all over my pillow.
Aside from that, I generally stick to hamster noises. |

Sorry you're having a rough time at school. I wish I knew what to say, that could be helpful at all, but that's not my strong point (thank you, autism!) But for what it's worth, you're not alone in these feelings, and many of us have been there. |

Just for clarity, when I mentioned derailing the 'you' was a general you, not you personally. I assumed that - but made it about myself anyway! :) Thanks for clarifying, and yes it does cross a line when the OP's issues get completely ignored, and the entire thread is hijacked by others. I've seen ... |

Bullying was rare at my school. The fashion police would sometimes make their opinions known, but generally the 'populars' vs. 'unpopulars' just stayed away from each other.
Condolences to those who had it worse. I was really lucky in this regard. |

Thank you - yes, we have those resources in my area as well, and I'm definitely planning to seek them out, when the time comes. I've been so grateful this past year, to have access to therapy, and a social worker who has given me some guidance on those issues. After a lifetime of struggling to get a... |

I'm glad you're finding it helpful! In my case I'm not working - just trying to crawl back from extreme dysfunction, rarely leaving the house for several years now. I've made a lot of progress this past year, but a weekly class still feels daunting to me. So it helps to hear your perspective on that... |

I recently read Temple Grandin's book, 'The Loving Push' - which talked about how important it is for autistic kids to have a mentor figure, for extra help in learning the life skills that we don't easily figure out on our own. No, I didn't have anything like that growing up. (But I'm learning - it'... |
