UPDATE: My leave was approved by the system. Tomorrow (technically today as it's after midnight) is my return to work date. When my leave began, I called and spoke to a manager, but they called again and left a message to call them back. I called every day since and was never able to get through to ...

The other one that gets me is "normalize," as in "We need to normalize _______." Instead of listing everything that needs to be normalized, how about saying it's okay to not be normal?

Most of my special interests are popular in some sense. Disneyland, for example, is one of my main interests. However, I think most people go, "Let's go somewhere fun. How about Disneyland? Sure, that sounds good. And maybe next time, we'll go to Vegas. Or to the beach. Or camping," etc. W...

LOL, well we all are...me too. But the word isn't wrong. I think, too, I get bothered when people put an emphasis on these words with vocal inflection, as if their use of them is especially original. They seem less concerned with accuracy and more with their own agenda. And your first example is a ...

I think the problem is, there is no other word to use when it's not actual gaslighting. I see this word being tossed around like I do with the word abuse and the word bully. They could just say the person is lying, but I think that doesn't sound as threatening, so they overuse gaslighting . It's li...

I find many words are overused on the internet. Before, when something was described as "toxic," I might have taken notice. Now, "toxic" is used to frequently so describe so many things, I see it and my brain turns off.

A lot of it is too shallow, mainstream, hackneyed and cynically done for my taste, but this one doesn't annoy me. Hard to believe it's by a band that were originally more a business ploy than a real band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riG85oA6Wy4 That's interesting. I hadn't heard this one before...

I'm more interested in why the focus seems to have shifted away from the "handful of old white men" who own everything and towards "any random person, real of fictional, whom we decide to label privileged." Is the definition of "privileged" pertain here to social privi...

I love classic holiday music. It's the only time year you hear certain older styles of pop music played in public instead of the standard current hits. Also, it's so merry. Full disclosure: I'm an atheist, but I even like the religious Christmas songs. Yes. That is one upside. The guy who drives my...

...Personally, I find the narrative of opressed-opressors generally dangerous and unhealthy. First, because it encourages hatred and "justifies" harming whoever you find privileged; second, because while the narrative is stable, the group identified as opressors can easily shift, resultin...

Ahh, the old "you're either with us or against us", just dressed up with more words. THIS. Every time I see this kind of argument, I think of Gaston from "Beauty and the Beast" crying "If you're not with us, you're against us!" while whipping up the angry mob. Or, it's...

I'm not interested in politics, but narratives fascinate me. Something I've noticed is that I always used to see people (particularly on the Left) talking about "The 99% vs. the 1%," or, "it's all of us regular people vs. the billionaires keeping us down," but now I usually see &...

According to this argument, the Right got a set-up where everyone is on their side by default. I know this isn't just applied to moderates, but third-party voters, the politically disengaged (me), "mild" liberals, etc. Even if you're not supporting the Right in any way, you're still suppor...

For me, as a politically unaffiliated person, yes, it's equally applicable if someone on either side behaves this way. Exactly. Which leads to the question why only leftists get labeled this way. If right wants to use this weapon against the left, why doesn't left also use it against the right? I w...

I could be wrong, but my reading of the term "Social Justice Warrior" was that it was meant to be sarcastic (particularly the "warrior" part), aimed at people who viewed themselves as heroes on the front lines of fighting injustice, when really, they were just arguing on the int...
