I follow some simple, rigid rules and they serve me alright so far. Firstly, I don't get anything that involves automatic ongoing costs. No subscriptions or anything. I want every time I spend money to be a conscious decision on my part. Secondly, I have multiple accounts. One account is for in-pers...

What I THINK the writer meant was that: If you have PDD-NOS then you are less impaired in social skills then are other folks on the autism spectrum. You might not be the equal of NTs in social skills but more like them than ...whomever the other folks he is comparing them too (aspies or autistics o...

I learnt something new. 8) It's common for adults to have occasional heartburn. But, as you get older, it can become a more frequent irritant. “There is not any clear age where things take a nosedive, but as we age, heartburn becomes more of a problem,” says gastroenterologist Scott Gabbard, MD.23 ...

But ASD is lifelong, something you're born with and will be with you until the day you die. It denies you proper friendships and is a very lonely disorder to have (unless you like being alone). It's a horrible thing to have. Plus with all these added physical health conditions that are now apparent...

I mean, she could actually be a lesbian. Lesbians are just as uninterested in unattractive men as they are in attractive men.

Why does it matter?

I had a university instructor tell me that he was on the spectrum. We were chatting after class about autism and he mentioned it.

I've been hit on by abusive people, but I saw the red flags and noped out long before it could have progressed to a relationship.

2. Regardless of your functioning level, if people perceive you as autistic or special needs, you are less likely to be romantically successful compared to someone who appears neurotypical I disagree with this point. People who perceive you as an NT who is failing at stuff NTs should be succeeding ...

What is it about women of middle-eastern background that appeals to you? The delicious food they cook You don't need to be middle-eastern to cook middle-eastern food. I agreed that 9 to 12 is a bit early for talk about sexual attraction, of any kind, and that they shouldn't be gossiping about it, especially with random adults. That's the usual age for kids to start feeling sexual attraction. And it can be really dangerous for kids to be trying to deal with new e...

I doubt the pure Lovaas method, Discrete Trial Training, is used today. Actually paediatric psychologists still recommend it. Unfortunately. I do not recommend ABA in any amount. The closest I'd come is recommending an eclectic strategy that draws some ideas from ABA, but tempered by non-ABA strate...

Note to self: Don't immigrate to Australia. These laws target parents looking to find medicare/NDIS insurance support for a chronically disabled child. They don't apply to a person with autism if they are capable of employment and looking after themselves. Maybe Joe90 meant that she wouldn't want t...

The focus should always be on what the patient identifies as their biggest concern. For me, that's never been my autism - my PTSD has always been more bothersome to me, because it actually makes me unhappy, whereas autism makes my life harder but doesn't overall affect my happiness. Even my meltdown...
