Reading your whole post thoroughly again though, it does sound like this is more than a school issue...he's having issues across the board. Generally with us, my daughter is either having problems at school and doing fine with me at home, or having lots of trouble at home, but managing things well a...

I had to deal with my daughter being violent at school once. Well...twice really as it happened a first time and she was given a warning that next time she'd be sent home. I work at the school where she attended at the time, so I knew the teacher. When the teacher came to me and asked what to do aft...

Uh, I liked it, although I thought towards the end it became quite far-fetched. But as for a lot of the character portrayal, I found it realistic enough (for a movie at least). I went to an aspergers workshop recently and it reminded me of something I heard at an educational workshop on autism sever...

Hmm....something my brother once said to me. He grew up before they diagnosed. As and adult he's been diagnosed with adhd, but I believe he also has aspergers disorder (he's like a poster boy for it). "I felt like I was always in trouble for things I couldn't help." I try to keep this in mind for de...

my daughter, 14, is starting to realize that mom isn't supposed to go with you to the movies. Once I went with her but she had me sit somewhere else. So last time I said I wasn't going to take her to the movies if i had to sit somewhere else. LOL....but for the most part, we are really close (or at ...

I thought it was understood among teachers that you don't want to have only problem children in any given group. It's best to spread the love. It's like if you fill a classroom with difficult kids and leave them there (my daughter had this experience last semester, she's also quite distractable...an...

We have a guy with autism in our classroom. I have worked with him for 3 years now. I work in a public Montessori school, so we have more than a one year relationship with most of our children. One thing I'm noticing as he is older is that while he really wants to be social, his inroads into convers...

Thanks...the good part is, she's always better after melting down. She was great yesterday, completely back to herself.

I've been kind of lurking today because we had such a rough night at home last night. Things have been worse again since a new semester started. My daughter is exceptionally bad at transitions, and all new classes her second half of the freshman year, new lunch group...etc, has just caused all sorts...

My daughter has some similar problems. I mentioned it on here before, but one thing I did was set up a "safe place" for when things became violent in our house. She or I have to leave the house. The first time I did it I called a friend (I was thinking of calling the police), who knows us both...and...

Thanks...I tried to ask questions this year about what kind of services could be made available to her because of her diagnosis, and they gave me the same line as when she was first diagnosed...that social issues were our responsibility. I think it bothers me most...that children with reading proble...

Yeah, I don't know that it would make a difference for us. My daughter was diagnosed in the seventh grade (after years of struggle) with aspergers. It really did fit what her struggles have been. But she's very smart. She qualifies only for a 504...because she doesn't fail any tests. But she's a mes...

I do a lot of things. I've always found I'm bettter when I exercise, and now I try to have a "workout schedule" posted on a calendar so I don't forget. Reading helps me as well, but that's also a way I avoid people (even at home), so I have to balance that with being social since I'm a mom. I take a...

You know looking back, I think 6th through 8th were the hardest in a way. I mean...gradeschool was so hard, but for most of it my daughter was very near me...or at one point we were at the same school for 3 years. But middle school brought on a whole new set of "stuff"...influences that weren't so g...

[quote="happyhippiemama"]Thanks for the input. I really appreciate the time everyone is taking to answer. I'm not entirely opposed to medication. I just feel like it was offered as a suggestion before we have tried anything. I don't see how either of the doctors suggesting medication could...

I have had to physically restrain my daughter. I am hoping she has come to the end of her "most" violent meltdowns. She still occasionally gets mad enough to throw things in the house, but she no longer acts threateningly toward me like she used to. I used physical restraint twice over a year ago......
