To the OP: I suggest you seek help from an organization in your area, if there is such a thing in your area, for people with autism and AS, and speak to someone one-on-one, in person. Also there are many books that can be helpful - please browse the other threads in this forum for titles that other...

SINAQUA And if your intention is to help this woman you will not let her slide on her behaviour either. She is upset and stressed because she has a son diagnosed with AS, and feels she will "help him" by "changing him". Do you understand so far? I understand that she is frustrated and seeking advic...

Why shouldnt I be hostile to someone who was hostile first? This is akin to saying "But he hit me first!" It's still not right, or helpful. If your intention wasn't to be helpful, then bravo. And military training does not automatically transfer over to child-rearing. This is ESPECIALLY so with chi...

And anyone who says its not the parents fault that the kid is autistic is an idiot. You gave birth to the kid. If its not his fault(WHICH IT ISNT), its yours. That has to be one of the most ignorant, unhelpful things I've read here in quite some time. How is it the parents' - or ANYONE'S - "fault" ...

:( People come here for help, for perspective, and get torn a new one for it. "Bad Parents" don't ask for help, they don't seek other opinions like the OP is doing here. I think it's horrible that people here are being so vicious to the OP. I didn't read anything in her post that led me to believe s...

Our only issues with our son (age nine) are 1) he's a picky eater and 2) gets bored sometimes. We always let him bring along a book and/or a small quiet toy (like an action figure or a little car) to read or play with in the restaurant. He loves it if the restaurant has a children's menu; he's crest...

I really hear ya. Especially about the "spoiling them" thing. At the moment (very temporary, I hope, although I do love them) we're staying with my in-laws. They love me and my son, and they "understand" about his Asperger's, mostly, somewhat, but just this morning, I was catching a little stuff fro...

And I have been incredibly disheartened by the "Juan Crow" attitudes prevalent in this country (although I know such discrimination is by no means restricted to the U.S. - just look at South Africa recently). Juan = John James (Jim) = Diego it's the Diego Crow attitude, isn't it? Merle Did not know...

/pulls up a chair and grabs the popcorn :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Naw... the illegals aren't stealing your job. They are just applying for the job. The person who is responsible for hiring new employees is the one who gives people the job. Perhaps your issue is with them? I never said I had an issue wit...

I know I've said this in other threads, so sorry if you've heard me say this before, but it seems relevant here: I no longer try to make "friends" - instead I try to find people who share my specific interests/hobbies. If we end up feeling comfortable enough to do things or talk about other things o...

I'm very much like this. When I first heard the terms "introvert" and "extrovert" I felt schizophrenic - I really felt like I was both, depending on the circumstances and who I was with and how I was feeling and what the topic was.
