Our lovely Paediatrician who diagnosed 2 of my 3 sons has retired. :( So now we're looking for a new Paediatrician. We were referred to 'the best' - well he sure knows how to charge lots of money! Within a couple of minutes of the first consultation he said, "I don't accept other people's diagnosis....

I've met a few online friends in person.

Just ask the person if they'd like to meet you.

For safety, choose a public place and carry a mobile phone. Make sure a family member knows where you are.

alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency

This is a genetic cause of emphysema (people who have never smoked but have alpha-1 get emphysema).

It is usually a more aggressive form of emphysema.

And the point needs to be made - how would you know you were seated next to a child on the spectrum? As a mother of 2 sons with Asperger's I believe I can pick a child with Asperger's in about 30 seconds. It's the mannerism, speech pattern etc that is like my sons. Also all those hours hanging out ...

My 10 year old son (with Asperger's) and I started Taekwondo together 1 year ago. There is so much more to martial arts than tournaments. My son is aware that he is not the most coordinated and he focuses on the stuff he loves - training, the friendships he's made and the social side of the club (ca...

It should not be the parents job to come up with services or supports. It's the school's responsibility, those who are familiar with the services they offer and are supposed to be "experts". I think it is usually best to let the school give you their plan first, then take the IEP home to review it,...

Mum (NannaRob) asked me to let you guys know her internet is dead and she won't be back online until Tuesday at the earliest. On another note, my oldest son turned 10. He has been hopeless with birthday parties in the past - he likes the idea of lots of people at his party - but when it happens he's...

Thanks, Helen. That is funny because that article on your website is where I read about CBT (there was a link from G Bollards website on IEPs). If you have the time could you post or PM about the process of CBT and what it helps with in relation to AS? Thanks. To explain the process my boys have un...

2 of my 3 sons have Asperger's - they are 10 and 8 years old.

They have both undergone CBT at an autism/asperger's clinic with fantastic results.

Here is an article from my website with more information.

Hello, I hate the morning rush with my 3 sons (2 Aspies) but have found a couple of things to make it easier. I give them a reward - I tell them when you're dressed, had your breakfast and your teeth are brushed you can play your nintendo. Re your 65 pound child - can you send them to bed in the clo...

Hello everybody, Thanks for your lovely posts. I've been working on my website but had to stop due to early carpel tunnel syndrome signs (nerve entrapment in wrist leading to lots of pain). I posted at length about the awful start to the year we had. About 8 weeks ago a new Special Ed teacher started. She is absolutely fantastic! Within 1 week the boys settled down. In the last 2 months my oldest son is only having meltdowns 1/week (as opposed to 3/day). My second son has only had a co...
