Hi there! Welcome to WP! I don't know how going for a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder/AS works like in the UK, sorry about that. A couple of points on your list sound to me as if they could be because of AS. It's hard to tell from just the behaviour/preference though and that's why I want t...

In essence, if you're "active but odd", A) you actively approach other people ("most of the time" you initiate social interaction and do not withdraw from other people's approaches, you do not ignore it if others attempt to engage you socially and you do not simply stay passive, meaning you do allow...

How well someone gets along in a country probably depends a lot on what a person's like.

I live in Germany and it's been nothing but problems.

Lots! The earliest repetitive behaviours that I remember are - pushing cardboxes in front of me We have list of pictures of me on which I am a few months old and holding onto a cardbox. I adored my cardboxes and mom said that I was the happiest baby when I was left to push around a box, never growin...

I am not going to cry. Trying very hard here not to cry, really. So it's Easter and my grandmother who I've been avoiding the best I could since October invited us to lunch. My aunt too. I'm not having the best of days too. I felt happy/normal until the incident, but I've been really noise sensitive...

The one thing I've been wondering about a lot since reading the article is: what's the fastest and safest working alternative to that scenario that people not involved in the actual case would agree with or at least be more comfortable with?

Oh, you know, please keep in mind that AS, infantile autism (autistic disorder) and atypical autism (which isn't identical in use to PDD-NOS but quite close) will still be in use for at least another two years. Maybe longer than that, depending on what the final draft of the ICD will look like event...

Anger and brooding. When I am focused on something such as chopping up vegetables or on writing something by hand, people around me often try to poke me or to pull on my clothes, then start to joke around. When I tell them to stop distracting me, they tell me to cheer up to which I usually respond t...

I've been working with/been a friend of a boy with an ASD since 09 or so and it's great. Lots of fun. I've worked together with other autistic children too but usually only as an aide during school or during school holidays when parents placed their autistic children into sorts of daycare programs f...

I attended regular schools. When I was enrolled in elementary school, my mother had to go all out on the paediatrician who tested my "readiness" for school. He talked her into giving her okay. I passed all the tests but the paediatrician was concerned about the way I responded to her and about my pr...

I do make eye contact with people though (even though I don't like it), and it's never helped my problems with people. In my experience, the effect of eye-contact depends entirely on the situation and on the participants. In my case, it helps sometimes because people who only know me a little think...

I had an ASD therapy since 06 (I think) and only recently stopped going. The past two years of therapy were totally pointless. The therapist had become annoyed about that I doubt my diagnosis of AS and she was annoyed whenever I explained that I hadn't already made progress in some areas after we'd ...

At age 18/19.

The psychiatry agreed on that I have an ASD when I was still 18 and settled on AS right after I took an IQ test one month after I had turned 19.

They do but usually in a good way. I was told that special ed students but also regular students tend to quickly take a liking to me and favour me over other adults when they require help or when they are unhappy because they appreciate that I treat them (the special ed students) as if their differe...

When I asked my grandma about my old Bobby-Car because I wanted to keep it in case I'll have kids of my own someday (someone already gave it away in secret, I'm sad), she was all surprised, embarrassed and laughing and like 'you having kids?'. On the next day, she talked to my mom about that I had a...
