Your thought process is similar to mine. There is no sound in my head, only unvoiced words. Some people can recreate actual voices in their thoughts. Reading a note from a spouse is heard or felt with the spouse's voice. Same for reading books. They have more of an inner dialogue when I have an inne...

@Edna3362: Yes, thank you. All the senses are on a bell curve. My visual is the best. They call it hypophantasia. The rest of the senses are close to nonexistent. Your description is fascinating. I am a typical low-ender on the spectrum. Just learning the words and the cues has been helpful. I am tr...

I recently learned that my inner monologue is called worded thinking.  There is only the thought of a word, no sound.  Images and emotions take extra work and require a verbal cue. About 25 percent of people have only worded thinking.  Some with more sound and more imaging, others less.  The rest of...

I have been smoking weed off and on for about 50 years. Sometimes, it helps and other times it does not. I just need to be careful and dose myself properly. Weed was fun when I was in college, but then it became more of a crutch and I stopped for many years. If you are new to weed, start with small ...

@autisticelders Your description of Autistic Perseveration was a kick in the head. Thank you, I am getting closer to passing the Duck Test, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck. I am a duck? I believe so.

Look up autistic perseveration, emotional rumination, and responses to trauma. Those things could explain a lot. I was trapped in re living emotional trauma and pain for most of my life time. Once I got diagnosed at age 68, I was able to see that my re living these experiences was frantic attempt a...

@Cataclysmic Psychlone, I needed to read your post a few times to understand. Thank you for the advice on finding compassion and forgiveness for myself. It is difficult. I am very tired of beating myself up over every stupid thing I did. Self-medication, weed, can only do so much. I am hoping that t...

I hid in a different way behind a Union Jack for 30 years so people would accept me. Did it work? There are lessons that most people learn as children. For me, there were only rules to follow and I did not understand them. Learning late in life is much tougher than learning as a child. I had 6 brea...

I can relate. I don't know WTF was wrong with my parents. The school I attended in the late 70's called in a 'specialist' because of what I eventually found out: I was Autistic. When I was 6 years old, it was not widely known. Of course they 'doctor shopped' until they found someone who offered an ...

This is beautifully written, and I bet a lot of people here can relate to you. Especially the part about emotions flowing back from some hidden chest with a padlock on it. Getting diagnosed is like being granted to the key to the chest of memories, and sometimes there are memories there we wish wer...

Did it work?

In the last week I have had a formal diagnosis.

Have you got any advice with the process of coming to terms with an official diagnosis ?

Focus on the good in your life, all your accomplishments, and your family. You have done well and should be proud.

For most of my life, I hid because I did not understand the NT world where my actions were met with the back of a hand. Now, I hide because the sting from the slap makes sense. So how did I get here? About twenty years ago, I realized that something was missing in me. I did not know what it was. The...
