I've been having a bit of a problem recruiting participants for my study (Autism Disclosure in the Workplace) when I don't know them very well and I come upon them in person at their jobs. For example, there's a cashier at a store I frequent who has great ideas and I would LOVE to get his input. It...

One of my committee advisors for my thesis is friends with Roy Grinker. He does some interesting research. As far as I know, he is the only anthropologist that is studying autism. The article is talking about the original meaning of the puzzle piece icon, that autistic people do not, and should not ...

My mom has always worn long hippy skirts that she pulls up to her natural waist. She thinks this hides her stomach. I don't think she's owned a pair of pants in about 40 years. Because of this, I almost always wear pants. The few times I've worn a skirt or a dress it's been exactly knee length. I al...

I was going to the sandwich shop to get a delicious turkey and cranberry sandwich. I passed my brother in law, who is English, waiting outside, eating a sad sandwich with no meat, no cheese, and no mayonnaise on it. He was tweeting about how wonderful it was, which was ridiculous. I was hoping he di...

My husband and I were watching 1970s through 1980s the NEW Price is Right last night on YouTube and remembering all the awesome products we no longer have. There was a killer kitchen appliance that was a dishwasher on the bottom, a range in the middle, and an oven on top where a microwave would be t...

I was in an exercise class with 70 year olds and had to give up after 15 minutes. I'm 38.

My sister has been a graphic designer for 10 years or so and she's just now finishing her Bachelors. And I once took a journalism production class and the TV News guy who taught it said you do not need a degree to work in any kind of media. A lot of people start their jobs while still in school. The...

Hahaha! When I was 17 I worked at a restaurant that made me wear a kerchief over my hair. I hated it at the time, but I guess it was a good disguise. If it's a second interview, you're probably pretty evenly matched with this other person in skills and experience. I would not give a definite answer ...

I don't know what to tell you about your yearbook problem. You probably won't think about it again even in a year, let alone years from now. The next time it'll matter is when you pull it down off the shelf to show your kids how silly hairstyles used to be. I went to community college, a technical c...

Can you test out of the lower level classes? If not, I guess you'll just have to grit your teeth and muddle through. With math sometimes it's best to start way below where you need to be. Then it's a slow climb to the hard stuff. A base in English is never a bad thing. You'll be able to write papers...

I absolutely agree with Adamantium. I use something called Grounded theory, which is basically just LISTENING. But there are a lot of weird theories. There's a new thing going around about "pedagogy" where you're supposed to consider your own "entitlements" and "privilege&qu...

She used disposable wipes to clean herself On her hair too? 8O I don't recall what she did for her hair. I sometimes use dry shampoo on the roots of my hair when I'm trying not to overwash it. Maybe she used that. I've read that if you just stop washing your hair completely it stops getting greasy ...

I once watched one of those Obsessed with Strange Things shows about this lady who was afraid of water so she never showered. She used disposable wipes to clean herself. She didn't smell bad. They took her to the doctor and he said there wasn't anything medically wrong with what she was doing. So ma...

I think the lines of where the autism spectrum ends and everybody else begins are already starting to blur, which is kind of unfortunate for the autism acceptance movement. I also don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging that you're different and that everyone else is more or less the s...

This can happen in school, too. People can purposefully try to rile you up about an issue and then act like you're irrational. It's kind of easy to spot. In real life it doesn't look much different from Internet trolling.
