It's something I've wondered a bit about for a while now, but last night I (made the mistake of) watching the first episode of Queer as Folk . I was somewhat disturbed by its portrayal of gay life. Surely it's exaggerated for the sake of TV, right? I fear it's a reasonable portrayal of Canal Street.

@Laz - here's how not to do it! Link to the map at the DFMA.

The fortress is reasonably well defended, using several tricks which are worth taking note of, but just read the Points of Interest in order and you'll get the idea. :)

"The Pyrates" by George MacDonald Fraser (he of Flashman.) It's good. Quite funny. Very idiosyncratic writing style. Bit Pynchonesque, only not s**t.

I'm still trying to create "that perfect fortress entrance" - there must be something that allows traders in but automatically eliminates all intruders with no need for maintenance whatsoever, then sorts through their belongings, moves the useful stuff directly to stockpiles and destroys the rest......

May I ask what you mean by modding consoles? "Using hacktools developed by others." Script kiddie stuff. Unless, by some unlikely chance, the person talking is one of the rare few who genuinely hack into console firmware for kicks using mad programming skillz, in which case kudos and (grey) hats off.

Okay, cool. The military stuff confused me when it was changed a while back, and I never really got to grips with it (plus it was buggy) but I've got the basics down now, so here goes: The basics : First you need to appoint a militia commander. Appoint a dwarf to this post from the (n)obles screen. ...

I don't really understand what the word "meme" means. I know it's something to do with what people say nad pictures and stuff, but could someone define it properly for me please? Properly, a meme is any idea which propagates itself. A virus of the mind. Internet memes of the sort being referred to ...

Can you tell me whay, phonic? That would help me understand why I was considered dumb after IQ tests when I was a child. Person who invented the IQ test, told people not to use it for measuring. That a good enough answer? After long study of the phenomenon here, I've determined that people with ASD...

I've been recently hearing and reading that it's just a made up disorder for pharmaceutical companies to milk money. Standard memetics; take something you don't like, take a group of people you don't like, and invent some absurd and fanciful way in which the one are profiting from the other. You ge...

After the untimely abandonment of Crowncoal and a brief-lived fortress on top of a volcano - yes, someone fell in a magma pipe - the weary dwarves of the Mortal Diamonds founded their newest fortress, Shortbush, on a lonely and savage jungle island, safely away from goblins and kobolds. For a while ...
